Wonderful afternoon at Anini with teenage girls from across the island! We talked story about plastic pollution, learned about ways to protect our ocean, and completed a beach cleanup together.

It was a great way to kick off our World Ocean Day events and celebrate the power of youth making a difference for our environment. 🌊💙🌎

After working with artist Kat Ho and the 85-foot ceramic mural being installed at the Kilauea Lighthouse, artist Tami Lobasso could not help being inspired by both the mural and the birds that circle endlessly around the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge.

Ever felt sick after a day in the water? 🌊🤢

Hawaii’s coastal waters are beautiful, but aging infrastructure and over 80,000 cesspools across the islands mean that runoff and sewage can sometimes end up where we swim.

That’s why WAI (Wastewater Alternatives & Innovations) created The SeaSick Program. We are a community-powered reporting tool designed to track suspected waterborne illnesses—from skin and ear infections to stomach issues.

📍 OUR MAP HAS BEEN UPDATED! 📍 We’ve just refreshed our interactive map with the latest survey results from the community. Check the link in our bio to see recent reports in your area and stay informed before you head out for a dip.
Why report? Individual cases often go unrecorded by health officials. By sharing your experience (anonymously!), you help us build the data needed to push for cesspool conversions and cleaner water for everyone.

Stay safe, swim smart, and help us protect our reefs and our health. 🤙🏽
