🌊 Small crew, BIG impact!

On Wednesday, October 28, our Net Patrol team was back along the coastline behind the Līhuʻe Airport near Ninini Point, and this small but mighty crew removed an impressive 825 lbs of plastic pollution and debris! 💪

We were also happy to welcome back Tyler, a returning volunteer visiting from Colorado, who joined our veteran Net Patrol crew for another afternoon of hard work. We love seeing familiar faces return to help care for Kauaʻi’s coastline! 💙

A big mahalo to Barbara for leading the team while Scott is away, and to everyone who showed up and helped haul another 825 lbs off our shoreline!

Every cleanup makes a difference, no matter the size of the crew. 🌊

Surfrider Foundation Kauai Chapter is still planning on doing net patrol this afternoon at Ninini Point. Please meet in paved parking lot closest to dirt road down to Ninini lighthouse at 3:20...cleanup 3:30-6. Closed toe shoes required, as we will be working on a rocky coastline. This event may be canceled if there's extremely heavy rain.

🌊 Back to Ninini Point — and what a cleanup!

On Wednesday, October 21, our Net Patrol team tackled the beautiful coastline at Ninini Point, with 9 volunteers removing an impressive 977 lbs of plastic pollution, fishing gear and trash! 💪

This week, Barbara, one of our founding Net Patrol leaders, was back at the helm filling in for Scott. We’re lucky to have such dedicated people leading this team! 💙

A big mahalo to our visiting volunteers from Portland and San Diego. We love having visitors spend part of their time on Kauaʻi helping protect our coastline!

And we had some interesting finds this week! Three propane tanks, two of which appeared to be marine debris, a giant tire packed so tightly with rocks that we couldn’t remove it, and a huge bundle of buoys that brought our buoy count to 42!

There’s never a shortage of surprises along this coastline, and clearly plenty more work to do.

Mahalo to Barbara and all 9 volunteers for another afternoon of hard work and dedication to keeping Kauaʻi’s coastline clean! 🌺
