Cookson Hills

Cookson Hills Cookson Hills provides home, school, and therapy for kids who are at-risk. For many kids, Cookson Hills is their childhood home.

Since 1957, Cookson Hills has provided home, school, and therapy for kids who are at-risk. We are a children’s home in Northeast Oklahoma, serving kids ages 5-17 who want to write a better story for their lives and have experienced challenges with family life, homelessness, poor peer relationships, abuse, or neglect. Compelled by the love of Christ, our team works together to fulfill our vision –

to raise up healthy individuals who are empowered to positively impact future generations. For others it’s a temporary home for about two years. All kids come here to live within a family. They enroll in school, they learn, they play sports, they make friends, they help set the table, they laugh, they talk, they ride horses, they heal, and (we hope) they leave better than they came.

Leadership doesn't happen overnight.

This summer, eight Cookson Hills students are stepping outside their comfort zones and into opportunities that will help shape who they become.

Through New Life Ranch's Leadership Development Program, these students are participating in the Nehemiah Team and Timothy Team experiences, where they are learning that leadership begins with following Christ. Built on the belief that lasting leadership starts with a transformed heart, the program combines mentorship, service opportunities, Biblical teaching, and intentional community to help students grow in their faith, character, and responsibility.

For some, the Nehemiah Team is their first step into intentional leadership development. For others, the Timothy Team provides opportunities to deepen their self-leadership skills and continue growing as servant leaders. Together, these experiences encourage students to lead by example, serve others well, and discover how God can use their lives to make an impact.

We are incredibly proud of these eight students for choosing to invest two weeks of their summer in personal and spiritual growth.

Thank you to the generous supporters who make opportunities like this possible. Because of your support, students can experience programs that build confidence, strengthen faith, and prepare them to become leaders in their homes, churches, schools, and communities.

Join us in praying for these students as they continue learning, serving, growing, and seeking God's direction for their lives this week.

I've been thinking about the word "home" lately.

Most of us think of home as the place where we're known and loved. It's where we belong. Many of the children who come to Cookson Hills haven't experienced that kind of home. That's why our Home Renewal Project is so important. 𝑰𝒕'𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒂 𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆. It's about creating a place where children can feel safe and cared for while they heal and grow.

Thanks to your generosity, we've already met more than 70% of the project's needs. We're incredibly grateful.

Now we're working toward the finish line.

Our horsemanship students saddled up for their very first trail ride with our new Equine Specialist, Lindsey.

For some, it was an exciting adventure. For others, it meant stepping outside their comfort zone and trusting both their horse and themselves in a brand-new environment.

Trail rides offer much more than beautiful scenery. They teach patience, responsibility, problem-solving, and perseverance. As students navigate the trail, they learn to stay calm, make decisions, and build trust with their horseβ€”skills that carry far beyond the saddle.

Moments like these are an important part of what makes the Cookson Hills horsemanship program so valuable. Every ride is an opportunity for growth, healing, and confidence-building.

We're proud of each student who took on this new challenge and made memories they'll carry with them for years to come.

🌟 From the blazing surface of the sun to the farthest reaches of the stars, our students recently took us on an unforgettable journey through God's incredible creation during the Spring Band Concert.

Through weeks of practice and preparation, our Elementary Students, Beginning Band, and Varsity Band worked together to bring this galaxy-themed performance to life. Their music reminded us of the vastness of the universe, and of the God who spoke it all into existence.

Events like this are about more than playing notes and rhythms. Music teaches discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and confidence. It gives students the opportunity to develop their talents, express themselves creatively, and contribute to something bigger than themselves.

As we listened to these young musicians perform, we were reminded of the words of Psalm 8: "When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place..."

We're so proud of our students and grateful for the hard work they invested to make this evening a success. Thank you to our music staff, families, and community members who came to support them.

🎢 Enjoy this special moment from the concert!

These photos tell the story.

For more than a decade, these homes have provided safety, stability, and belonging for hundreds of children. They've been the setting for family dinners, homework around the table, bedtime prayers, laughter, healing, and growth.

Years of daily life have left many of these spaces ready for renewal, and that's where you come in.

Thanks to the incredible response to the Cookson Hills Home Renewal Project, items are already arriving and plans are underway to refresh these homes for the children who will walk through their doors in the years ahead.
Every gift helps create a place where a child can feel safe, welcomed, and cared for.

Thank you to everyone who has already joined us. We can't wait to share the transformation with you!

Recently, our horsemanship students attended the Colcord Rodeo, where they had the chance to experience the excitement, tradition, and community of rodeo culture.

One highlight of the day was watching one of our kids, Jojo jump into the calf scramble. With determination and grit, he came away with the win and a cash prize!

While moments like these are exciting, they're also meaningful. Many of our students arrive at Cookson Hills carrying the weight of difficult experiences. Opportunities like this allow them to step into new situations, take healthy risks, and discover they are capable of more than they imagined.

At Cookson Hills, horsemanship isn't just about horses. It's about building confidence, resilience, and characterβ€”one experience at a time.

Join us in congratulating Jojo on his accomplishment! πŸ‘

πŸŽ‰ Celebrating Excellence, Character, and Achievement πŸŽ‰

Awards Night is one of our favorite traditions at Cookson Hills.

Throughout the year, our students work hard in the classroom, on the athletic field, in music, and in service to others. While many awards are recognized during school assemblies, Awards Night gives families, staff, and our community the opportunity to come together and celebrate these accomplishments in a special way.

This year we recognized students for academic achievement, athletics, music, leadership, character, scholarships, and much more. Each award tells the story of hard work, growth, and perseverance.

Two of the evening's highest honors are the Charger Award and the Daniel Award.
πŸ† The Charger Award recognizes a student who demonstrates grit, resilience, courage, and the determination to overcome challenges while remaining humble and respectful.
πŸ† The Daniel Award honors a graduating senior who exemplifies bold faith, godly character, wisdom, and a commitment to standing firm for God.

We are proud to share that this year's recipient of both awards is Senior, Renee.

Renee's perseverance, character, faith, and dedication have made a lasting impact on our school community. Congratulations, Renee, and congratulations to all of our students who were recognized this year. We are incredibly proud of you!

The response to the Cookson Hills Home Renewal Project has been incredible!

Boxes are arriving, and each delivery is helping prepare our homes for the children we serve. Because of your generosity, children who come to Cookson Hills will experience homes that feel even more welcoming, comfortable, and cared for.
Every item purchased is helping renew spaces where children heal, grow, learn, laugh, and belong.

To everyone who has given, shared, prayed, or purchased from the wishlistβ€”thank you. Your kindness is already making a difference.

These homes have faithfully served hundreds of children over the years. Now, together, we're preparing them to serve the next generation.

If you'd like to be part of the Home Renewal Project, there's still time to help!

Service is woven into everyday life at Cookson Hills Christian School.

From elementary students building friendships at Quail Ridge… to middle schoolers serving at the Chewey Community Center… to high schoolers partnering with Ability Tree, our students are learning that compassion isn’t just something you talk aboutβ€”it’s something you live out.

Why do we prioritize service? Because Jesus came to serve.
In our newest blog, we’re sharing how students from kindergarten through high school are learning to notice needs, work hard behind the scenes, and care for others with Christ-like compassion.
