Cookson Hills

Cookson Hills Cookson Hills provides home, school, and therapy for kids who are at-risk. For many kids, Cookson Hills is their childhood home.

Since 1957, Cookson Hills has provided home, school, and therapy for kids who are at-risk. We are a children’s home in Northeast Oklahoma, serving kids ages 5-17 who want to write a better story for their lives and have experienced challenges with family life, homelessness, poor peer relationships, abuse, or neglect. Compelled by the love of Christ, our team works together to fulfill our vision –

to raise up healthy individuals who are empowered to positively impact future generations. For others it’s a temporary home for about two years. All kids come here to live within a family. They enroll in school, they learn, they play sports, they make friends, they help set the table, they laugh, they talk, they ride horses, they heal, and (we hope) they leave better than they came.

Service is woven into everyday life at Cookson Hills Christian School.

From elementary students building friendships at Quail Ridge… to middle schoolers serving at the Chewey Community Center… to high schoolers partnering with Ability Tree, our students are learning that compassion isn’t just something you talk about—it’s something you live out.

Why do we prioritize service? Because Jesus came to serve.
In our newest blog, we’re sharing how students from kindergarten through high school are learning to notice needs, work hard behind the scenes, and care for others with Christ-like compassion.

One former Cookson Hills resident shared that memory years later. That first bedroom became a symbol of something much bigger: a home where healing could begin.

Today, we're launching the 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 to refresh the bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, and shared spaces where children live, learn, heal, and grow.

Years of faithful use have left many furnishings, household items, and living spaces ready for renewal. Through our Walmart Wishlist, you can help provide the items needed to make these homes welcoming, comfortable, and functional for the children we serve.

Every renewed space communicates a simple but powerful message:

We’re proud to celebrate three of our graduating seniors who also completed their programs at Northeast Tech this month!

Laurel completed the Health Careers program, earning certifications as a Home Health Care Nurse Aide, Long-Term Care Nurse Aide, and OSHA 10 Healthcare.

Seth completed the Visual Communications program and was part of a BPA team that won the Oklahoma State Computer Animation competition, earning a trip to Nationals in Nashville.

Vanessa completed the Visual Communications program, earning multiple credentials in graphic design, media publication, marketing, and content creation. She also served as BPA President for the Kansas campus and was named Female Student of the Year for the entire Kansas campus.

These students have worked incredibly hard, and we are so proud of the way they’ve pursued opportunities, grown in their skills, and prepared for what comes next!

Congratulations to the Cookson Hills Class of 2026!

For the second year in a row, 100% of the seniors who began the school year will cross the stage tonight! How incredible is that?!

This fall, four of our seniors are headed to college, while two will serve our country through the Coast Guard. More importantly, each student will start their next chapter with a story of growth, resilience, and people who believed in them along the way.

We are incredibly proud of these students and excited to see where God leads them next. Would you join us in praying courage, wisdom, and good friendships over them as they start their next chapters?

This story is just the sweetest.

In a recent blog, one of our housemoms, Michelle, shares the story of a Mother’s Day she’ll never forget… not because it was extravagant, but because it gave her “such a clear little glimpse of what the Lord is doing in the hearts of our kids.”

You can read more about her “best mother’s day ever” on our blog! But here’s a glimpse of the day in pictures too!

Our Senior Class recently returned from their mission trip to Arizona, where they served alongside the American Indian Christian Mission—and the week left a lasting impact on many of them.

We’re so thankful our seniors had the opportunity to serve, learn, grow, and witness God at work in another community. Thank you, trip sponsors, Steve and Christine Peloquin, for walking the kids thoughtfully through this trip!

Our Varsity Band had an incredible competition day at the Heartland Music Festival!

Our students traveled to Guthrie, Oklahoma, and performed beautifully at the former OK State Capitol Building. They absolutely SHINED and earned top scores from the judges, along with a Sweepstakes Trophy, Outstanding Achievement Trophy, and recognition as one of the top bands out of 30 groups!

Eight of our students were also recognized individually for outstanding musicianship and sectional excellence, such a huge accomplishment for them!!

Afterward, they got to celebrate by spending the rest of the day at Frontier City, which made the day even better!

And behind every great performance is a leader who inspires his students to find the music within themselves. We want to extend a deep and heartfelt thank you to our Band Director, Ken Kelly.
Ken, your dedication to restarting and growing our music program is a gift to this campus. You don’t just teach our students how to hit the right notes; you teach them the discipline, harmony, and passion required to excel in all areas of life. Thank you, Ken!

Our final spotlight for the year is shining on Vanessa! After almost five years at Cookson Hills, Vanessa is stepping into her future with confidence and a strong sense of identity.

She has been involved in volleyball, basketball, worship band, and yearbook, embracing opportunities both in and out of the classroom. Vanessa shares that her favorite part of Cookson Hills has been the personal growth she’s experienced—learning more about herself, building meaningful relationships, and finding a true sense of family.

She is proud of how far she has come, recognizing the ways God has worked in her life and the growth she has experienced both academically and personally. “When I think back to who I was before Cookson, I feel an incredible amount of pride knowing that I am not the same person I once was. I love who I have become… I never thought would be possible.”

After graduation, Vanessa will spend the summer working at New Life Ranch before attending Grand Canyon University’s Honors College in Phoenix, where she plans to study business.

And to our supporters, Vanessa wants to say, “YOU ARE AMAZING!!! Every prayer, every gift, every kind act changes lives forever!”

Prom was a blast!

Our students got dressed up, shared a great meal together, danced the night away, and made so many fun memories with their friends. The room was full of laughter, music, and seriously… they all looked SO good.

We’re really grateful for everyone who helped make the night happen and gave our students such a fun, joy-filled evening together!
