Aloha Honokohau Community!

The 23rd Annual Rock n Reel Tournament is just two weeks away, and we’re looking forward to another great event.

We still need additional boat entries and volunteers to help make the tournament a success. If you have not yet registered your boat, please do so soon:

https://www.hbgfc.org/tournaments

HBGFC continues to support our local community through conservation, youth programs, charitable giving, and community events thanks to our members, sponsors, and volunteers. This tournament along with the Marlin Magic Lures partnership are our two main fundraising events for the year! Your support is greatly appreciated.

We also encourage members to volunteer during tournament weekend and attend the HBGFC Annual Membership Meeting on Sunday evening following the tournament.

If interested, please contact us at:

[email protected]

The 23rd Marlin Magic Lures Tournament is coming up on 30 June, with fishing taking place on 1 and 2 July. Registration is now open on our website.

Mahalo for your continued support. We look forward to seeing everyone at the tournament and annual meeting.

The HBGFC board is seeking a volunteer Treasurer with QuickBooks experience. If you are interested, please let us know!

Mahalo,

HBGFC Board of Directors

May 21 5-7 PM at the HBGFC clubhouse. Please join us.

Aloha,

Mahalo for being part of this conversation. Whether we’ve talked story at Honokōhau, the West Hawaiʻi Civic Center, the Hilo State Building, or you’re hearing about Holomua for the first time, we want to make sure your voice is at the table as the next round of meetings begins.

Where things stand
Over the past several months, HFACT with guests from DAR have held outreach meetings in Kailua-Kona and Hilo with fishers. The message from those gatherings was clear: fishers want a real seat at the table, simpler rules, better enforcement, and action on water quality and access, not just more closures. A summary of those meetings is attached.
Upcoming Meetings
DAR is hosting seven talk-story sessions across Hawaiʻi Island. These meetings will:
Surface the issues and solutions you see on your stretch of coast
Decide how many Nav Teams the island needs
Gather nominations for the Big Island Navigation Team(s), the fisher-led group that will help shape the management plan

Anyone can nominate themselves or others. Nothing is predetermined. Interested persons are asked to RSVP for upcoming meetings at: https://dlnr.hawaii.gov/rsvp-for-holomua-talk-story/ For the latest information, see the DLNR Holomua Hawaiʻi Island page or contact us directly.
