Today we had a group of children with mothers who are visiting from Arizona Girls scouts of America. We had a Ti leaf lei making class. Our children and adults helped teach our visitors how to make this lei. We also had Kumu Alii teaching everyone simple hula steps. Thank you everyone for showing up and making this day a wonderful experience for our visitors.

A Place of Refuge for Families in West Hawaii

The Homes of Ulu Wini opened in 2011 with forty two-bedroom units for families with minor children. Ten of these units were set aside strictly for families coming from being homeless, a transitional housing program. The other thirty units were designated for those families with very-low income, 30% of the AMI (area median income), affordable housing for all. When you live at Ulu Wini you get to join in on an array of services being offered. Ulu Wini has grown throughout the years and can now house twenty-three families in their transitional homes and seventy-one families in the project-based voucher program through the County of Hawaii’s Office of Housing. All of our units are the same design and all tenants can join in on all the programs offered on-site. We welcome many community partners who provide programs and much more to our residents. These are some of the offerings:

  • After-School Tutoring and Educational Enrichment

  • Financial Literacy Classes for Adults & Youth

  • Tenant-Based Skill Building
