The Rotary Club of Kona supports our keiki at many levels, from $20,000+ for college/university scholarships each year to a $5,000 donation to Art4More last week. Art4More is a program that helps art teachers buy classroom supplies. Sadly, this type of school supplies is poorly funded, so our club has made several donations to help teachers buy watercolors, brushes, and other supplies over the years. We are happy to help. , ,

The May Rotarian of the Month is Chrys Yamazaki. Chrys is one of the rocks of our club. She has administered the Foundation's scholarship program for several years and has been an essential member for years. She doesn't say a lot, but when she talks, we all listen, knowing it will add tremendous value to the discussion.

I have admired Chrys since day 1 of my Rotary journey. Her business acumen and quiet perseverance inspire anyone trying to run a business in Kona, Hawaii. Part of her story is that she became the first licensed female surveyor in Hawaii, and through good times and bad, she has led Wes Thomas & Associates to become the go-to surveying company on the island.

Several club members had an awesome day at the shooting range. We shot .22, 9mm, 10mm, 12 gauge shotgun and more. Then we cleaned the area and took out more than 10 bags of trash. Thanks, Gonzo, for organizing a wonderful community service, social, and shooting day!
