International and Statewide Symposia on Anchialine Ecosystems:
Hui Loko co-hosted the 5th International Symposium for Anchialine Ecosystems or “5ISAE” in Kona next November 2022, along with staff from Hawaiʻi Wildlife Fund, The Nature Conservancy, National Park Service and the Hawaiʻi Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR)'s Division of Aquatics Resources, Hawaiʻi State Parks, Forestry and Wildlife. This symposium brought experts together from around the world and across Hawaiʻi to build and share knowledge, stories, and research on anchialine fauna, habitats, and restoration efforts. Past ISAE events have been hosted across the Atlantic seaboard but never in the Pacific region. 4ISAE was hosted in Lanzarote, Spain (2018), 3ISAE in Mérida, México (2015), 2ISAE in Croatia (2012), and 1SAE in Mallorca, Spain (2009). Past statewide Hawai‘i anchialine pool symposia have been hosted on Hawai‘i Island (aka the "Big Island") in 2008 by the National Park Service at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Pacific Division Meeting and in 2016 by the Hawai‘i DLNR’s Division of Aquatic Resources and friends. Please share this FB page with whomever we may have missed in the anchialine world so they can see the follow-up posts, videos, and calls for the 6th ISAE event. Me ka mahalo / with gratitude / muchísimas gracias,
5ISAE Organizing Hui (Committee)
