Andando

Andando Strengthening communities in rural Senegal. Our name comes from a Wolof word meaning “walking together”. Wolof is the main language of Senegal, West Africa.

The Andando Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) public foundation that was formed in 2007 out of a desire to “walk together” with some of the less fortunate citizens of our world. Senegal is the the principal country in which Andando operates, but we also have projects in Swaziland, Panama and Paraguay. Our goal is to alleviate poverty through micro development. This can happen in a variety of ways, and a

t Andando we are learning new ways every day as we walk together with friends around the world. Come join us!

And just like that, 81 students at Kawe Elementary School🏫 now have freshly renovated classrooms and brand-new bathrooms! ✨

Kawe is a remote village in northern Senegal.🇸🇳 Its school, the only one for dozens of surrounding villages, was falling apart. The community reached out for help, and you answered. Fast forward a few short months, and the renovations are complete!

This is the power of your support. 🫶 By working together, we can respond to urgent needs exactly when and where they matter most. Learn more about Kawe Elementary School at https://www.andando.org/news/tag/Kawe

Our two newest gardens to add aquaculture 🐟 are celebrating double successes: harvesting fresh fish and boosting overall crop production!✨

“Before, all our production was weak. But when we use the [fish] water, we see all the production is increasing. It’s very excellent! When we got the fish, they were small, but now we harvest and cook them!” --Ramata Diallo, President of Sare Diouma Garden

Integrating fish farming into gardens is a game-changer for rural communities. It improves access to high-quality food and boosts economic opportunities for women.

“If we didn’t have this fish pond, we would have gone elsewhere to buy fish. But now we raise fish ourselves, and we also eat and sell. And all our friends and family often come to buy them.” — Dickel Sow, Mbantou Croissement Garden Member

We are thrilled to be a Tomberg Family Philanthropies 2026 Grant Recipient! For the last 3 years, Tomberg Family Philanthropies has helped bring dry-land fish farming to more communities in rural Senegal.

By integrating fish basins in established gardens, the same water does double duty, first passing through the fish basins before being used to water garden crops. This improves access to fish and increases garden yields, having a transformative impact on nutrition for the entire village:

“We used to have up to 35 children suffering from malnutrition... But now it is a part of our past, here in Mboyo. “— Aminata Elhadj Diagne, Member of the Mboyo Walo Fish Farming Committee

Congratulations to the 2026 Tomberg Family Philanthropies grant recipients.

We are grateful to support organizations working across education, environment, health, and poverty alleviation to improve lives and strengthen communities.

Our partner health clinics 🩺 💝 are reaching more villages to address public health issues like malnutrition!

"Thanks to Andando, we are now able to serve six villages. Previously, in each screening, we would identify 7 to 9 children suffering from Moderate Acute Malnutrition; now, that number has dropped to just 4 children!" — Ngoné Ndiaye, a healthcare worker in Mbantou Croissement

Around 500 children are screened for malnutrition in Andando clinics each month. Moderate cases are treated locally, while more severe ones are referred to hospitals. By helping partner clinics to stay well-stocked and deliver services consistently, more people are seeking care.

Water 💧 for Wouro Kelle: On the bank of the Senegal River, the village of Wouro Kelle supports more than 700 people. While the floodplain here is fertile for agricultural opportunities, the water is unsafe to drink. Few families have the money to purchase bottled water, and when the floods cut off access, even that costly option disappears, leaving the people here no choice but to drink directly from the river.

With the need so urgent, we were thrilled to find a new partner in Seaboard Overseas and Trading Group, who stepped forward to help us pursue a lasting solution for Wouro Kelle. See the rest of the story at https://www.andando.org/news/unlocking-abundance
