Andando

Andando Strengthening communities in rural Senegal. Our name comes from a Wolof word meaning “walking together”. Wolof is the main language of Senegal, West Africa.

The Andando Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) public foundation that was formed in 2007 out of a desire to “walk together” with some of the less fortunate citizens of our world. Senegal is the the principal country in which Andando operates, but we also have projects in Swaziland, Panama and Paraguay. Our goal is to alleviate poverty through micro development. This can happen in a variety of ways, and a

t Andando we are learning new ways every day as we walk together with friends around the world. Come join us!

Our partner health clinics 🩺 💝 are reaching more villages to address public health issues like malnutrition!

"Thanks to Andando, we are now able to serve six villages. Previously, in each screening, we would identify 7 to 9 children suffering from Moderate Acute Malnutrition; now, that number has dropped to just 4 children!" — Ngoné Ndiaye, a healthcare worker in Mbantou Croissement

Around 500 children are screened for malnutrition in Andando clinics each month. Moderate cases are treated locally, while more severe ones are referred to hospitals. By helping partner clinics to stay well-stocked and deliver services consistently, more people are seeking care.

Water 💧 for Wouro Kelle: On the bank of the Senegal River, the village of Wouro Kelle supports more than 700 people. While the floodplain here is fertile for agricultural opportunities, the water is unsafe to drink. Few families have the money to purchase bottled water, and when the floods cut off access, even that costly option disappears, leaving the people here no choice but to drink directly from the river.

With the need so urgent, we were thrilled to find a new partner in Seaboard Overseas and Trading Group, who stepped forward to help us pursue a lasting solution for Wouro Kelle. See the rest of the story at https://www.andando.org/news/unlocking-abundance

Change takes time...BUT it doesn't always have to!!!

In the village of Kawe there is an opportunity to make a clear difference today that will last for generations!! The school 🏫here (the only one for dozens of surrounding villages) is falling apart. The community asked for help, and with your support, they will soon have ✨ two beautifully refurbished classrooms with a new roof, stronger walls, new desks, AND bathrooms for the first time!!! Thanks to an unexpected gift from our friends at Altrusa International of Albany Oregon, they will also receive 📚 new textbooks.

Change takes time... That is generally true, but it doesn’t always have to be, especially when there is an opportunity to make a clear difference today that will last for generations.

Following up from last week's post, we are excited to share how your support is helping rural health clinics 🩺 💝do more for their communities!

When resources are limited, people become very good at making do, but what could be possible with greater support?

This question led us to develop a new rural health clinic model in partnership with the Ministry of Health to offer more services, increase outreach, and expand use across a wider area, strengthening the quality and reliability of care in rural areas. “Health is fundamental, and anyone who helps you stay healthy has done everything for you. We thank God and we also thank you. We have made a lot of progress. Children come now to be weighed and vaccinated and sick people come to be treated.”
- Fatou Aliou Diallo

This year, in Andando’s 16 partner health clinics 🩺, almost 250 women gave birth with trained midwives, avoiding long journeys and dangerous unassisted home births. These clinics also supported preventive care, with over 13,000 services provided, including monthly baby weighing and routine monitoring, which helped identify malnutrition early, ensuring children’s development wasn’t affected.

Hope on the Edge of the Sahara: Senobowal sits at the crossroads of a changing world. Home to more than 2,000 Indigenous Pulaar pastoralists, it has been a center of life and movement 🌱🐮 in northern Senegal for generations. But the rhythms of this beautiful and demanding landscape are shifting. 🌧️Rains are less predictable, pasture is under growing pressure, and poverty is rising alongside extreme heat. Even so, the people of Senobowal remain vital stewards of a fragile landscape on the edge of the Sahara. Their way of life is under threat, but their knowledge and resilience 💪🏾are also part of the answer to a warming world.
