“The legacy of Heroes is the memory of a great name and the inheritance of a great example.”

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Captain Tommy Shine. Tommy fought tirelessly and with unwavering determination, and his journey inspired countless others as they followed along. Our thoughts are with everyone whose life was touched by this exceptional firefighter and tremendous human being.

He found true purpose in serving others, spreading joy, and living life with gratitude. Through his years with the Wentzville Fire Protection District, he embodied compassion, dedication, and the spirit of service, always striving to make a positive difference in our communities.

Tommy’s light, kindness and strength will forever remain in our hearts. We stand united with the Shine family and all his Firefighter brothers and sisters as we honor his memory and support them through this difficult time.

We Remember 🇺🇸❤️

Today we honor and remember Chief Garry Moore. On April 2, 2025, Chief Garry Moore died in the line of duty while responding to a call in extreme weather.

Chief Moore began serving as a volunteer public safety officer in the 1970s and began serving as Chief of the Whitewater Fire Protection District in the mid-1990s. He left behind his wife and loving family.

We will never forget the life and legacy of Chief Garry Moore.

Recently, we had the opportunity to help Grace of Whitewater, Missouri, who had been relying on an outdoor wood furnace to heat her home after her existing furnace stopped working. When The BackStoppers of Southeast Missouri reached out to share her story, our team knew we wanted to step in.

Our technicians volunteered their time to install a brand new all-electric heat pump system for Grace at no cost, giving her a safer and more reliable way to heat and cool her home. This project was made possible by the dedication of our team members who believe in showing up for the people in our community when it matters most.

We are proud to stand alongside organizations like Lennox and The BackStoppers who support families of fallen and injured public safety heroes, and we’re grateful for the chance to give back in a small way.

As we step into a new year, we want to take a moment to reflect with gratitude and purpose.

In 2025, Jackson Backyard BBQ was honored to donate $42,500 to benefit The BackStoppers Inc.. This was a record-breaking year for our organization, and it would not have been possible without the incredible support of our sponsors, volunteers, competitors, donors, and everyone who stood behind our mission.

This year also brought profound loss close to home. In our area, two line-of-duty deaths were covered by The BackStoppers —a sobering reminder of why their mission matters so deeply. We remember and honor Chief Garry Moore of the Whitewater Fire Protection District, and Officer Henry Franklin of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, both of whom were killed in the line of duty this year. We will never forget either of these heros.

The BackStoppers doesn’t just respond in the immediate aftermath—they provide ongoing, lifelong support to the families of our fallen first responders. That continuous commitment is why it is so important that we all continue to stand behind their mission.

As we look ahead to 2026, we invite businesses and individuals to consider sponsoring the Jackson Backyard BBQ so we can continue to support the BackStoppers and the families who depend on them. Together, we can ensure that no family walks this road alone.
