OC Hispanic Education Endowment Fund

Our mission is to improve access to higher education for Orange County’s Hispanic/Latino students.

HEEF was established over 24 years ago by generous donors and visionaries, in partnership with the Orange County Community Foundation, in an effort to inspire, enhance, and improve educational opportunities and academic potential of OC Hispanic students. The Orange County Hispanic Educational Endowment Fund (HEEF) serves students who have attended high school in Orange County (OC), California and

been residents for a minimum of four years and are intending to enroll in a university program. HEEF offers competitive academic scholarships for Orange County high school and community college transfers, and additionally, awards tuition grants for students at selected Santa Ana, CA Catholic Grammar Schools, and provides scholarships for OC college graduates to attend Law School. HEEF’s goal is to enhance educational opportunities and to improve students’ educational expectations and opportunities. The Fund is a resource to academically talented Hispanic/Latino youth that need to overcome financial barriers to complete a college degree.

HEEF leadership, our NEW Advisory Committee chairs, and subcommittee leaders recently met with Vanguard University leadership to explore future partnership and collaboration opportunities focused on long-term student success.

Conversations centered around strengthening support systems for scholars through mentorship, professional development, leadership opportunities, alumni engagement, networking, and career readiness pathways.

We’re excited about the momentum ahead and grateful to Vanguard University for a thoughtful and inspiring conversation. More to come!✨

HEEF is honored to welcome Paula Amezola, MPH, BS, founder of First Gen Legacy, as keynote speaker for the upcoming HEEF Luncheon on June 27, 2026.

A lifelong public servant and advocate for first-generation student success, Paula’s work focuses on educational equity, career readiness, and financial literacy empowerment.

📚 Paula will also be signing and distributing books during the event. We look forward to gathering with our scholars, supporters, and community partners for this meaningful afternoon.

Taking care of your mental health is just as important as reaching your goals. Whether it’s taking a break, setting boundaries, asking for help, or checking in on someone you care about, small actions can make a big difference.

This month serves as a reminder that you are not alone, and support, community, and kindness matter.

During our recent Advisory Committee meetings at OCCF, we celebrated several major milestones as we continue building a stronger future for our alumni community.

From officially launching our Governance Charter and 2026 Goals to planning upcoming professional development opportunities and our Scholarship Luncheon, this next chapter is focused on growth, leadership, and impact.

We’re especially excited to continue strengthening partnerships with local colleges and universities while expanding resources and opportunities for our members.

We’re proud to welcome Dr. Carla Salazar Gonzalez to the HEEF Alumni Leadership Network!

A sociologist and researcher, Dr. Salazar Gonzalez focuses on immigration, inequality, and the experiences of asylum-seeking mothers at the U.S.-Mexico border—bringing visibility to stories that are too often unheard and overlooked.

Her work reflects the very impact HEEF strives to foster: using education as a pathway to elevate voices, challenge systems, and strengthen communities.
