We’re proud to share this article from Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division highlighting the 2026 National Robot Rodeo and the collaboration that continues to make this event such a valuable resource for the EOD and bomb technician communities.

We are grateful to NSWC Indian Head Division and all of the government, military, public safety, international, and industry partners who continue to make the National Robot Rodeo possible.

Removing a Barrier. Investing in the Next Generation of Bomb Technicians.

For bomb squad members preparing to attend HDS, completing the required Hazardous Materials Technician training can be another hurdle on the path to certification.

USBTA is helping remove that hurdle.

This October, USBTA will provide a 40-hour HMT Course at no cost to public safety bomb squads. For accepted students, USBTA will also fund approved travel, lodging, and per diem.

When: October 26–30, 2026
Where: Indian Head, Maryland

The training combines HAZMAT technician-level requirements with practical application specifically relevant to bomb squad operations.

If your squad has a member awaiting an HDS seat, we encourage you to learn more and apply.

And please share this with other squads that may have a technician who could benefit.

3D Printing for Bomb Technicians Focused Technology Training Exercise (FTTE) is officially underway at USBTA!

Over three days, bomb technicians are getting hands-on experience with the practical implementation of Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) 3D printing and, more importantly, learning how to take that knowledge back to their units and build a sustainable 3D printing capability of their own.

The focus isn’t just on learning how to operate a printer. It’s about showing techs how additive manufacturing can help solve real operational problems, improving efficiency, fostering innovation, reducing logistics costs, and giving units the ability to respond more quickly to emerging operational needs.

It has been awesome seeing the collaboration, ideas, and engagement happening throughout this FTTE. This is exactly what we want to continue bringing to the bomb technician community: relevant technology, hands-on training, and capabilities that can make a real difference in the field.

A huge thank you to EODTECHCEN and everyone who helped make this training possible, and especially to the bomb technicians who joined us this week!

Another great FTTE at USBTA!

One of the most valuable parts of the 2026 National Robot Rodeo was the opportunity to bring people together.

The Industry Engagement event, Distinguished Visitor Day, and the Networking Social all created opportunities for public safety bomb technicians, military EOD, international partners, industry, government stakeholders, leadership, and subject-matter experts to connect in ways that go far beyond the training lanes.

These opportunities allow us all to share real-world challenges, exchange ideas, see emerging technology firsthand, strengthen existing partnerships, and build new relationships.

The National Robot Rodeo isn’t just about testing technology or completing scenarios. It’s about creating an environment where the people developing the technology, the people supporting the mission, and the technicians actually doing the job can talk, listen, learn from each other, and move the community forward together.

This is collaboration in action, and this is how we make the bomb technician community stronger.

A special congratulations to our winners!
