Ten years ago, a small group of bomb techs came together with an idea: create an organization focused on connecting the community, expanding opportunities, and advancing the profession.

Today marks 10 years of USBTA.

A decade later, that idea has grown into a community bringing together bomb technicians, EOD professionals, government, industry, academia, and partners through training, research, technology, collaboration, and support.

None of it would exist without the people who believed in the mission, showed up, shared their expertise, built partnerships, and helped us grow.

Now we're asking you to help us keep showing up.

WHAT A WAY TO CELEBRATE 10 YEARS!

Yesterday, we had the privilege of gathering with friends, colleagues, partners, supporters, and members of the Bomb Technician community to celebrate an incredible milestone...10 years of the United States Bomb Technician Association.

And what a celebration it was!

Thank you to everyone who joined us. Seeing so many people who have been part of the USBTA story, some from the very beginning and others who have joined us along the way, made the evening incredibly special.

But reaching 10 years isn't simply an organizational milestone. It's a community milestone.

USBTA would not be where it is today without the many Bomb Technicians across the nation who trust us to support their mission. We are equally grateful to our industry, academic, and nonprofit partners who collaborate with us, as well as our federal, state, and local representatives who have opened doors, shared expertise, and provided the opportunities and resources needed for success.

To our Board members, staff, volunteers, partners, sponsors, supporters, and friends, thank you for believing in the mission and helping us build what USBTA has become.
And we're not quite done celebrating...

Monday, October 19, marks the official 10th anniversary of USBTA
We'll have more to share as we mark that day and look toward the next chapter.

Screening & Detection: Turn information into decisions.

A reading is the beginning. What your team does with it matters.

Yesterday, we introduced CONVERGENT Operational Technology Integration Exercise as an extended, scenario-driven approach. The Screening & Detection Module brings that approach to one of the most important parts of a response: understanding what you are facing.

Participants will assess how screening, detection, imaging, and remote capabilities contribute to a shared operational picture. How useful is the information? What remains uncertain? How does it influence the team’s next decision?

For bomb technicians and HazMat technicians, this is an opportunity to examine how different tools and disciplines support one another, and where integration needs improvement.

Campfire: Your experience helps shape the next step

You have used the technology. Worked through the problem. Identified the gaps. Now, bring those findings to the table.

Campfire connects CONVERGENT Operational Technology Integration Exercise participants with government, industry, and academia to discuss operational challenges directly.

Operators speak first. Together, participants examine whether an existing capability, a different approach, or additional training can address the problem, and identify requirements that remain unresolved. Campfire takes place during the exercise, allowing findings to inform follow-on scenario work.

That is the CONVERGENT Operational Technology Integration Exercise story: more hands-on time, challenging scenarios, collaboration across disciplines, and operator feedback that informs the next step.

STRONG COMMUNITIES SUPPORT STRONG MISSIONS

We were pleased to see the Charles County Military Alliance Council highlighted during a recent visit by Congressman Steny H. Hoyer and Maryland Comptroller Brooke Lierman to nonprofit organizations serving Southern Maryland.

During their roundtable discussion with MAC board members, the conversation focused on strengthening connections between local residents, businesses, military installations, and the defense community, and on the important role those relationships play in supporting both the mission and the Southern Maryland economy.

For USBTA, headquartered in Indian Head, this kind of collaboration matters.
Our work depends on strong relationships across the military, public safety, government, industry, nonprofit, and local communities. When those communities understand one another, share resources, and work toward common goals, everyone benefits.

We appreciate the continued work of the Charles County Military Alliance Council and others who help strengthen the connection between the community and the critical defense missions taking place throughout Southern Maryland.

Collaboration creates connection. Connection creates capability.

Multi Hazard Response: One problem. Joint response.

An incident can cross disciplines in seconds. Your response needs to keep pace.
An explosive concern may also involve an unknown substance, a toxic chemical release, or radiological hazard. Each new uncertainty changes the problem your team must solve.

The CONVERGENT Multi Hazard Response Module brings bomb technicians and HazMat technicians together to work through overlapping challenges in a scenario-driven environment.

Participants will evaluate technology alongside communication, coordination, and team decisions. Does information move effectively between disciplines? Can available capabilities support a shared plan? What happens when conditions change?

BRIDGE International: Experience across borders.

A different operational perspective can change how you approach a familiar problem.
This Operational Technology Integration Exercise brings disciplines together, and extends that exchange across borders.

The BRIDGE International Module will feature senior bomb technicians from the Israeli National Police Bomb Disposal Unit, sharing operational experience and working alongside U.S. counterparts.

Through collaborative scenarios and professional exchange, participants can compare approaches, examine technology integration, and discuss lessons from challenging operating environments.

For bomb technicians, the value is practical: broaden your perspective, challenge assumptions, and build relationships that support continued learning.
