Every 11 minutes, someone dies by su***de.

That number is heartbreaking — and a powerful reminder that mental health struggles are real, serious, and deserve attention. Behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a story.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, hopeless, isolated, or like the weight of life is too much to carry alone, please know this: help is available, and healing is possible. Reaching out is not a sign of weakness — it’s an act of courage.

At Workshop Counseling, we’re here to provide a safe, compassionate space to process life’s challenges, work through pain, and find hope again. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, or simply feeling stuck, you do not have to face it alone.

Your life matters. Your story matters. And support is here.

If you or someone you know is struggling, don’t wait to reach out.

What is your preferred summer pastime? For some individuals, it's attending a baseball game. Others may enjoy swimming, outdoor activities, or various other pursuits. For my family, creating lasting memories outside and with a summer treat in hand is key. I love snow cones but my family is a homemade ice cream family.
Please share your favorite summer activity in the comments below

Happy National Devil’s Food Cake Day! 🍰

Sometimes life feels rich, layered, messy, and overwhelming — kind of like dessert after a long week. While a slice of cake can bring a little comfort, it’s important to remember that real healing comes from taking care of your mental and emotional health too.

At Workshop Counseling, we know life can feel heavy at times. Stress, anxiety, relationship struggles, grief, burnout, and everyday pressures can all pile up. You don’t have to carry it alone. Our counselors are here to walk alongside you, meet you where you are, and help you find healthier ways to cope and grow.

So today, enjoy the cake, celebrate the small joys, and remember that taking care of your mental health is just as important as treating yourself. ❤️

May is National Mental Health Awareness Month, and sometimes the most important thing we can do is simply “say so.” 💚

The song Say So by Dan + Shay carries a powerful reminder: you do not have to carry your struggles alone. Whether it’s anxiety, depression, grief, burnout, trauma, or thoughts that feel too heavy to hold, your voice matters and your story matters.

At Workshop Counseling, we believe asking for help is not weakness — it’s courage. Sometimes healing begins with one conversation, one appointment, or one honest moment where you finally “say so.”

If you or someone you love is struggling, don’t wait in silence. There is hope, support, and help available. 💚

Today was Brunch & Bunco with Aisling — a time for community, connection, and raising awareness about human trafficking.

This event was an opportunity to come together, enjoy great food and a fun game, while supporting Aisling and the important work they do to further their mission and bring hope to those impacted by trafficking.

Awareness matters. Support matters. Community matters.

We hope you’ll join us next time as we help make a difference together.

Thank you Aisling for a great event!

🍕 Happy National Pizza Party Day! 🍕

What’s your favorite pizza place, and what toppings are your go-to order?

This pizza is a hand-tossed hamburger pizza with Alfredo sauce instead of traditional tomato sauce from Mama’s Pizza — and it did not disappoint! Personally, I love discovering those small “hole-in-the-wall” pizza places, hearing their stories, learning about their recipes, and seeing the passion they put into every pizza they make. There’s just something special about it.

Here at The Workshop Counseling Group, we hope you have a wonderful weekend! Join in on the fun and drop a comment below with your favorite pizza spot and favorite toppings. 🍕❤️

This week, we recognize both National Mental Health Provider Appreciation Day and Nurses Day — two groups of people who show up every day to care for others, often while carrying so much themselves.

To the nurses, mental health professionals, caregivers, and helpers: thank you for the compassion, patience, and strength you pour into the lives of others. Your work matters deeply.

But even those who care for everyone else need support too.

At The Workshop Counseling Group, we believe counseling isn’t just for moments of crisis — it’s for navigating the stress, burnout, grief, anxiety, relationship struggles, life transitions, and emotional weight that can come from simply being human.

You spend your days helping others heal. Let us help care for you.

You don’t have to carry it all alone. 🧑‍🍼💚

In October 2018, George Fritts recognized a growing need in the H-E-B area: people needed counseling support but often believed they could not afford it. From that vision, The Workshop Counseling & Community Center was created.
The mission was simple:
“To build community and restore lives by offering healing connections—especially for those who think they cannot afford them or who do not recognize their value— informed by evidence-based practices and motivated by our faith.”
What began at Shady Oaks Baptist Church quickly became a place of healing through many different forms of counseling: group therapy, marriage counseling, walk-and-talk counseling, counseling while working on cars, and so much more.
Now, nearly 7 years later, the location, name, and executive director may have changed, but the heart of the mission remains the same.
Today, The Workshop Counseling proudlyy serves the Hurst community from our Norwood location, continuing to provide affordable and compassionate mental health services for individuals, couples, families, veterans, and first responders.
Founded on faith, compassion, and connection, our team remains committed to meeting people where they are — in both traditional and non-traditional counseling settings — while respecting each person’s unique beliefs, experiences, and needs.
No matter what you may be facing — feeling stuck, hurt, overwhelmed, or uncertain — you do not have to walk through it alone.
Let The Workshop help you move toward healing, growth, and the best possible outcome.

Cinco de Mayo, we celebrate resilience, culture, and strength.
But strength doesn’t always mean pushing through on your own.
Just like communities come together in celebration, healing often happens when we allow ourselves support. Whether you're navigating stress, life transitions, or simply feeling overwhelmed, you don’t have to carry it alone.
At The Workshop Counseling Center, we’re here to walk alongside you—helping you build resilience, find clarity, and move forward with intention.
Taking that first step toward support might be the most powerful thing you do.

Dear Supporter of The Workshop,
I want to let you know of some major changes for The Workshop and for me personally. Nearly nine years ago, I had a dream to create a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring quality mental health services for everyone, regardless of their ability to pay or their comfort level with the traditional counseling environment. With your love and support, I have been blessed to have seen this crazy dream overcome major obstacles and help hundreds of individuals, couples, and families.

Many of you are aware that challenges within my own family were not put on pause during this time. For this and other important reasons, I stepped away from the counseling chair three and a half years ago, with the intent to continue directing the mission and vision of The Workshop on a part time basis.

Despite the efforts of an extremely dedicated Board of Directors and a host of compassionate clinicians, this has proved unrealistic. Over the course of the past year, we have been trying to “right the ship” by incrementingly transferring executive functions to Carrie Cotter. We excitedly announced her as our new Executive Director in December of last year.

Those of you who have seen organizations struggle when the “old boss” sticks around can hopefully understand that the time has come for me to take another step back. I asked the Board to accept my resignation at our last meeting. While bittersweet, I am beyond excited to cheer from the sidelines as The Workshop continues its mission.

If your support of The Workshop has been motivated by a personal connection to me or my passion project, it is my fervent desire (and request!) that you will continue to support this worthy organization within the bounds of your ability. THANK YOU for helping us BUILD COMMUNITY and RESTORE LIVES!

With Hope,
George Fritts
