Please join us in welcoming Tommy Huff to the staff of Wood Badge 662-26-2 at Philmont Scout Ranch as our Assistant Quartermaster of Logistics!

Working alongside the Assistant Scoutmaster of Logistics, Eric, Tommy helps keep the behind-the-scenes magic running smoothly. From pulling the trailer and ensuring equipment is where it needs to be, to making sure luggage somehow "magically" appears at each campsite, Tommy plays a vital role in supporting the staff and providing an exceptional experience for every participant.

Tommy attended Wood Badge in March 2019 at Worth Ranch as a proud member of the Antelope Patrol. Although he spent several years in Cub Scouts as a youth, Scouting reentered his life in 2015 when his son joined the local pack. Encouraged by fellow leaders to attend Wood Badge, Tommy discovered new ways to combine his passion for Scouting with his career in law enforcement.

Before the COVID shutdown, Tommy completed his NRA certifications and adapted his Wood Badge ticket goals to meet the challenges of changing times, ultimately earning his beads while learning the importance of flexibility and perseverance.

Some of Tommy's favorite Scouting memories include summer camp at Camp Alexander in Colorado and three Philmont treks. In June 2025, he proudly accompanied his daughter, JennaLeigh, as she became the first female Scout to complete the ZIA Trek at Philmont.

Tommy is currently preparing Troop 308G for their first Philmont trek in 2027. Continuing his commitment to outdoor leadership, he attended the Finding Your Way Backcountry Orienteering Course this summer and is already looking forward to Philmont Advisor School in January 2027.

After serving 4½ years as Scoutmaster of Troop 497, Tommy transitioned to the role of Charter Organization Representative for Baylor University, supporting both Crew 1845 and Troop 497 as part of a proud 35-year partnership.

Of all his Scouting accomplishments, Tommy says his greatest achievement has been mentoring two of his children to the rank of Eagle Scout — Noah in 2022 and JennaLeigh in 2025.

Thank you, Tommy, for your steady leadership, servant heart, and dedication to helping youth grow through Scouting. We are excited to have your experience, enthusiasm, and commitment on staff for Wood Badge 662-26-2 at Philmont Scout Ranch!

Less than two weeks left to take the Safeguarding Youth Training.

Youth Protection is expiring at the end of the month.

All Registered Scouters must take Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT). This is replacing the old Youth Protection Training (YPT).

Safeguarding Youth is required for all registered Scouters 18 years and older. It is also highly recommended for all adults and parents involved in Scouting.

If you have already taken the new course, the new Safeguarding Youth Refresher Training is available to help you renew this annual required training.

If you have completed the full Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) course and it is currently active or has expired within the last 7 days, you are eligible to take the Refresher Training.
If your full SYT training has expired for 7 days or more, you will need to complete the full Safeguarding Youth Course again before receiving credit.

Participants taking the Refresher Training must successfully pass the exam on the first attempt to receive credit for the Y01 training code. If the exam is not passed, the system will automatically route you to the full Safeguarding Youth Course to ensure a complete review of the material. Once the refresher exam is failed, the refresher course cannot be relaunched, and the full course must be completed.

We’re excited to introduce Reiana English as a Troop Guide for Wood Badge 662-26-2 at Philmont Scout Ranch!

A Troop Guide plays one of the most important roles in the Wood Badge experience — serving as a mentor, encourager, coach, and trusted resource for participants throughout the course. Troop Guides help build team spirit, guide patrol development, and ensure every participant feels supported as they grow in leadership, service, and Scouting skills.

Reiana is a natural fit for this role. Her passion for people, enthusiasm for Scouting, and heart for servant leadership shine in everything she does. Whether she’s creating engaging experiences for families, welcoming new Scouts, or mentoring leaders, Reiana brings energy, compassion, and authenticity that inspire those around her.

With a strong background serving at the pack level as both a Den Leader and Cubmaster, she brings valuable hands-on leadership experience and a deep understanding of building strong Scouting communities. Her ability to connect with others and foster meaningful relationships will make a lasting impact on every member of her troop.

Please join us in welcoming Reiana to the Wood Badge staff team! We are thrilled to have her helping guide participants through this unforgettable Philmont experience.

Honoring leadership, legacy, and courage.

The Longhorn Council Wood Badge Banquet 2026 brought together generations of Scouting leaders to celebrate decades of impact.

From recognizing trailblazers like Mrs. Epping to honoring the heroic actions of Todd Topley and the Wood Badge 662-26-1 staff during the Runaway Bay tornado, this night reflected the very best of Scouting.

Despite severe storm damage, we are grateful no injuries occurred at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch.

Together, we continue to build leaders who serve, protect, and inspire.
