Hi all, Mark and I wanted to send a short update on the future of Green Drinks Dubois County.

We have enjoyed getting to know all of you and have hosted a variety of speakers over the past year and a half. When we launched our local Green Drinks chapter last February, we were hopeful to gain a larger following and more regular attendance at meetings. We have hosted speakers from across Indiana, and even ran a Student Climate Film Festival this spring! However, sometimes the best-laid plans don't work out, and this Chapter never quite seemed to catch on.

Mark and I have decided to sunset the Green Drinks Dubois County chapter, effective immediately, to focus on other professional and personal pursuits. We appreciate all of your time, effort, and input into our Chapter. Please stay in touch! I do hope our paths will continue to cross. Don't hesitate to reach out to Mark or I directly with any questions.

We are shifting from July 16 to the 23rd to accommodate the Dubois County 4-H Fair. This month, we'll be hosting Dennis Tedrow with the Rotary Club of Dubois County to talk about Rotary's environmental and climate change initiatives.

Join us for our next Green Drinks Dubois County meet-up on Tuesday June 18th at the St. Benedict's Brew Works in Ferdinand from 6-8 pm ET / 5-7 pm CT. Dubois County Solid Waste Management District Director Carla Striegel-Winner will be our guest speaker and will share what is recyclable in the county and what is not. Carla will chat informally about the role of the SWMD in Dubois County and what types of items are taken, and where the items go on their route to recycling or disposal. She will also explain some of the lesser-known responsibilities and services of the District.

At our last meet-up we had some great discussion on how to grow the attendance at the meetups and ideas to grow or expand the student climate film festival to get more students involved.
Some of the thoughts on the meetups was to maybe look at rotating locations again, having specific discussion topics with more of a focus on local issues or opportunities. We also thought it might be better if we have guest speakers with more of a local focus like the Solid Waste Department and Fischer Farms, etc. Let us know in the comments if you have other thoughts.

In regard to the film festival ideas included expanding school participation to include Springs Valley, Perry Central and Heritage Hills. Instead of calling it documentaries just keep it simple as short films. Possibly assign content by categories. Do a format where attendees get voting tickets and vote on their favorite or best film, like a people's choice format. We need to put a positive spin on it and focus on innovation solutions, climate and environment opportunities. Possibly expand the event to more than just a film festival, more of a student media festival to include art students and guest artists to do paintings. Another idea was to hold it around career days and invite colleges like IU and Purdue and others and ask college students to give a brief talk about their study in the fields of environmental science and related careers. Have the colleges table there to talk about career opportunities.

REMINDER: Our next meetup is Tuesday, May 21st from 6-8 pm ET / 5-7 pm CT at St. Benedict's Brew Works in Ferdinand. If the weather is nice we may try to hold it outside. This is an important meetup with two main topics on the agenda. 1. An open discussion for ideas on growing attendance at our gatherings each month and 2. Do a recap on the Student Climate Film Festival and discuss ideas on growing the event for next year. Please plan to attend and bring your friends who may be interested in Green Drinks Dubois County.

I have a ticket to the student Film Festivlal tomorrow (Thursday) at the Cultural Center that I can no longer use since I will be in Evansville. If anyone wants it just let me know. Early reminder our next meet-up will be Tuesday, May 21st at the St. Benedicts Brew Works in Ferdinand from 6-8 pm ET. If it is nice weather, we will try to meet out in the patio area.
We would like to get as many people to this meet-up as possible so please put it on your calendar and share with others.
This will purely be a discussion session and we will focus on two very important topics -
1. How do we increase our monthly attendance and grow this Green Drinks chapter. All ideas are welcome.
2. We will have an overview of the Student Climate Film Festival and a discussion to talk about how we increase attendance for next year's film festival, especially getting more students to attend. Do we change the timing? Do we hold it during the week? ...

Took a day off to rest after Danni Schaust and I produced the first Student Climate Film Festival in Dubois County. We featured four short documentaries from high school students and one professional one Gen Z Mental Health: Climate Stories. If you came to the event thank you. If you missed it, you missed a good educational event. A big thanks to our sponsors and the Astra. Next step is to analyze how we can get more involved and I increase attendance especially by student which was a little disappointing that more didn't attend this first event. This production was a lot of work but worth the effort to start education the community more about environmental and climate issues. It was a good start to earth week!
