๐Ÿ’ก Neurodiversity awareness in the workplace matters.

Many employees with hidden disabilities, including autism, ADHD, anxiety, learning differences, and other conditions, work hard every day to meet expectations while managing challenges that may not be visible to others. Without understanding and support, that effort can lead to stress, burnout, and disengagement.

๐Ÿšจ Have You Signed Up for the Medicaid Waiver Interest Lists?๐Ÿšจ

This is one of the most important resources we share with families on our Community Resource page of our website.

Many Texas Medicaid waiver programs have waiting lists that can span several years. Even if your child is young or you don't currently need services, joining can help ensure access to future supports and services when they are needed.

That's why we've added information about Medicaid Waiver Interest Listsโ€”and many other valuable resourcesโ€”to our Community Resources page.

๐Ÿ’ก From housing and employment resources to transition planning, safety, advocacy, and support services, we're working to connect our community with information that can make a difference.

Addressing the housing and support needs of autistic adults requires collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to long-term solutions. ๐Ÿ’™

We were honored to join State Representative Charles Cunningham during a recent visit to Project Beacon Texas, where discussions focused on one of the most pressing challenges facing our community: the growing need for housing and supportive living options for autistic adults.

Pictured left to right: State Representative Charles Cunningham, Dr. Amy Morgan Wood (Board Chair, Project Beacon), Kelly Baughman (President & CEO, Co-Founder of Project Beacon), Jennifer Dantzler (Founder & Executive Director, Inspire ND), and Joel Romo (President & Founder, Texana Public Affairs).

As more autistic individuals transition into adulthood, families across Texas are increasingly concerned about what comes next. Meaningful conversations like these help bring attention to the need for sustainable housing options, community supports, and pathways to independence that allow autistic adults to thrive.

Thank you to everyone working together to create a brighter future for autistic adults and their families.

Emily shares her personal journey into swim instruction after her own daughter experienced a near-drowning accident and explains how that experience fueled her passion for helping children with autism safely navigate the water. Together, Jennifer and Emily discuss why drowning remains one of the leading causes of death for individuals with autism, why traditional swim lessons may not always work, and how adapting teaching methods can make a life-saving difference. ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Whether youโ€™re a parent, family member, caregiver, swim instructor, or community member, this conversation offers valuable insight, practical tips, and hope for helping individuals with autism stay safer around water.

๐Ÿ’™ Sometimes the most meaningful journeys begin with simply saying, โ€œI want to do better.โ€

In our upcoming podcast episode, swim instructor Emily Hansen, Instructor & Owner of All Things Swim, shares the powerful moment that changed the direction of her work with the autism community.

After working with a set of twins on the spectrum, Emily left feeling discouraged and heartbroken because she didnโ€™t feel equipped to truly help them. But instead of walking away, she leaned in, learned more, collaborated with local BCBAs and RBTs, and began adapting swim instruction to meet each childโ€™s individual needs. ๐Ÿ’ง

That experience became the foundation for helping so many autism families feel safer and more supported around water.

โœจ Sometimes inclusion starts with being willing to learn.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ New episode coming May 27 to Shining Through: Inspiring Voices of Autism with host Jennifer Dantzler.
