Wow, the month of May has come and gone. Sure was a busy Month for us. Completed our annual hose testing, held a open house and fundraiser, had three members graduate Firefighter I&II/Haz Mat school, four Fire Officers have successfully completed Fire Officer I with three being able to test out for the State Certifications so far. We concentrated our training on our younger members and Junior Firefighters with practical drills switching out SCBA bottles for members that are working interior operations and on driving and placement of apparatus for tagging fire hydrants. We gave several tours and fire safety talks to classes from Hudson Area Schools kindergarteners. On a side note, we also ran on several structure and vehicle fires, vehicle crashes and so on. We can't thank our members and their families enough for all the time devoted to our Department as well as all of those who support us and those Departments and agencies we partner with on a daily basis to protect the Communities we serve.
We had our share of sad news as well as one of our members is moving out of State and one member being diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Be sure to check with our page and with the Hudson Fire Auxiliary page as we partner with the Nozzlemen MC to put on fundraisers like a poker run and t-shirt sales to help support Dustin and his family while he battles this disease. Another great group to check out is 2 In 2 Out First Responder Organization as they work year round to raise funds to support those in the First Responder Community.

The fight against Cancer is long and hard. Hudson Firefighter Dustin Byran is in that fight right now. Dustin was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer that metastasized to his liver. We are in the fight with our Brother and are working with groups like the Nozzlemen MC, and Hudson Fire Auxiliary to raise funds to help Dustin and his family through this battle. Our Auxiliary group has came up with these Awesome shirts, we have a Poker Run July 11th and a Dinner and basket raffle to help raise funds. We are asking for all of our fellow first responders to please share and spread the word to help one of our own. Thank you and Bless all of you for your help.

On this beautiful Memorial Day, remember those that have served and made the ultimate sacrifice, because Freedom is not Free. Have a safe Holiday out there, enjoy some family time, take in a parade and enjoy our Wonderful Country.

If you Ride a Motorcycle or drive a car or truck, please consider joining us on July 11th for this fundraiser. Dustin is a Father of 6, with a 9 and a 3 year old still at home and he is facing a very hard battle with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. Dustin is a member of the Hudson Fire Department along with one of his older kids Hunter. Dustin has been told he has Intermittent FMLA with no worries any time he needs it from his employer, but the FMLA is unpaid. The Nozzlemen MC and the Hudson Fire Department are teaming up and putting on this Poker Run to raise funds for the family to help offset some of his lost income. We can use all the help we can get to keep our Brother's mind off of unpaid bills and to keep concentrating on his health. Please consider joining us on the 11th.

Today we had a young lady who called and said she had a kitten stuck inside her engine compartment and was afraid it would get hurt if she tried to start her car. Enter retired firefighter Jerry Sr. And firefighters Hunter B. and Michael S. to the rescue. A few minutes of trying to locate and a few more of removing wheel well liners and p**f. Kitten rescued. Thank you for your kind actions today guys.

We want to say Thank you to all of the folks that came out for our Open House Fundraiser yesterday. Thank you to all of the Men and Women of the Hudson Fire Department that worked so hard on cleaning details all week long and then were on hand yesterday to show the trucks and equipment, and answered questions. Thank you to the Michigan DNR fire crews for joining us with your rig and equipment. We are very glad you got a break from all the work you have been doing for the past few weeks. Thank you to our Ladies of the Hudson Fire Auxiliary being on hand to run the raffles and selling T-shirts. Thank you to Natalie's Love at 1st Bite, Natalie, Jeff, Inessa, Kim for your hard work in the Food Truck and for your generosity in donating all of the proceeds to us for equipment purchases. Your kindness will never go unnoticed. May you be blessed 10 fold. And thank You to the people that came out in support of our event.

Congratulations to Dustin, Cassandra and Hunter on their Graduation from the Lenawee County Fire School. You all worked, studied and trained very hard during this class and have earned a hefty pat on the back. Thank you for your dedication to the Hudson Fire Department.

If your not busy our open house fundraiser is going on at the Hudson Fire Department. We have Natalie's Love at 1st Bite food truck, Michigan DNR Wildfire Division, Equipment and Apparatus on display, raffle prizes some are free some are $5 to win Smoke Detectors, Fire Extinguishers, stuffed animals, kitchen fire safety package. Come on over all funds raised will be used to purchase needed equipment that is outside of the regular budget.
