The food pantry has a new look. We recently received a grant from the United Dairy Farmers for a new refrigerator. This refrigerator is a double door glass doors multiple shelves and much more room then our previous refrigerator. They also gave us a check for $250.00 for the purchase of dairy products. We received a certificate from our state senator for receiving this grant. This is a great addition to the food pantry.

UPDATE: I heard a rumor the other day that Wesco has hit $1,000.00 in collections in less than a month. Way to go. With the Match from the Corporation that already brings the total up to $2,000.00. They are trying very had to obtain that goal of $5,000.00 this year. Let’s all help them out and make their Manager proud. Her wants to surpass my challenge.

After talking with a couple employees at the Wesco gas station they inform me that the donations are going pretty good and they have accepted the $5000.00 challenge that I posted about. In fact they would like to surpass this amount. Last year they opened in the middle of the donation season and they raised over $1600 and the Wesco corporation matched $1000.00. So last year in Roughly 6 weeks this is what they collected. This year they have three full months of collecting. Let’s support their efforts and help them meet this challenge. The Wesco corporation does a lot to support the community, so let’s show our support of Wesco and help them out by giving them our business and in turn make a small donation to the Roscommon County Food Pantry in the process.

As many of you know the Wesco gas station last year did a round up for the Roscommon County Food Pantry. They have started that again this year. This started on October 1 st and runs through the end of the year. So if you shop or get your gas at Wesco please do not forget to round up your change and help the Roscommon County Food Pantry and Wesco be able to provide necessary food to our friends and neighbors in our community. Last year the donation was over $3000.00 and that was from the time the store opened until the end of the year. This year they have the whole collection period let’s see how much we can push them over the $3000.00 mark this year. I am betting that with the community that we have here that we can get this up to over $5000.00. Let’s see if we can hit this mark. If we they can hit this mark it would be enough of a donation to fund the food pantry’s food for one month. With the increasing numbers that we are seeing come into the food pantry this will help us out tremendously. Thank you to everyone for your dedication to supporting our community.

Have you ever wanted to be a volunteer? Do you have what it takes to help your friends and neighbors? We are looking for some responsible, reliable individuals who would be willing to commit a few hours a week to helping their friends and neighbors from their community by volunteering at the Roscommon County Food Pantry. We are open 2 days a week Mondays from 10 am to 2 pm and Thursdays from 2 pm to 5 pm. If you are interested in volunteering please stop into the food pantry and fill out a volunteer application, sit down and have an on-site non formal interview with the Executive Director and take a look around and see if this looks like a place you would like to volunteer at. We love serving our community, our friends and neighbors and it brings us all so much joy when we can help someone have a better day.
