This event is fast approaching please share and donate to the go fund me if you can to help feed our friends and neighbors who are struggling with food insecurity. Every little bit helps.
Whooohoooo,I just dropped my Trek 800 at Northbound Outfitters / Cross Country Ski Shop. There is no place around I trust more to do a tire swap and tune up for me just a week and a half before my adventure. I can't wait to get on and feel that ride with those new, much smoother, tires compared to the knobby tires I have been training on all summer. And I can imagine how slick those gears are going to feel. Even though I only use two or three gears, a smooth transition while shifting, and lessening of friction on chain and gears has to make it a bit easier over the course of 110 miles. No clue when the bike was tuned last.
Now it is off to do some light shopping. A well lit river will be crucial in making it safely to Lake Huron. I will actually be running approximately eight or ten lights all night long. Two bow lights, four side gunwale lights, two stern lights, a head lamp, and two hand helds available if needed. One bow light will have yellow lens option for fog and mist in the early morning AuSable Valley. The head lamp will have red light option to maintain my night vision when having to look at something close up. Extra batteries in color coded bags for battery size to match color coded lights. Eliminating as much mental processing as possible helps prevent critical mistakes.
