Banks County Rotary is made up by a diverse group of civic and community minded individuals who want to make their Community the best it can be. Our club offers opportunities for our members - and those interested in making a difference - to get involved. Through meetings, social events, and volunteer projects, our members learn about the issues facing our community and communities all over the wo

rld, partnering with local, national and global experts to exchange ideas about potential solutions and to draw up action plans to respond. Along with these opportunities to serve, members are also regularly able to network, resulting in lifelong friendships and business connections. Our club is a proud part of this community and of Rotary International. Rotary is a global network of more than 1.2 million members who believe that great things happen when dedicated minds come together. We are community and business leaders representing different professions, experiences, and perspectives, but with a shared desire to connect with others to address the challenges affecting our community and communities around the world. Solving real problems takes real effort, commitment, and vision. Rotarians work to protect communities from preventable disease, keep women and children healthy, improve education and economic outcomes, create safe water and sanitation infrastructure, protect the environment, and make our community and the world a more peaceful place. Close to home we are working with various partners on the following projects:

*FOOD-2-KIDS - Partnering with the Banks County School District, the North Georgia Food Bank and the Banks County Interact Clubs, we send home sacks of food every week during the school year for 100 students in need. This has been the club’s signature project since 2011.

*CART Fund - Members work to raise funds throughout the year for the 'Coins for Alzheimer's Research Trust,' a special initiative of the Rotary Clubs of North America.

*LITERACY PROJECT - Beginning in 2020, each week the club donates a book in the name of the featured guest speaker at club meetings, to the Banks County School libraries.

*ENDING POLIO - Partnering with Rotary International, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the World Health Organization, and UNICEF to end Polio, once and for all.

*BROTHER JIM MCLENDON MEMORIAL ROTARY SCHOLARSHIP - A charter member of the club, Brother Jim left quite a legacy in the community. So much so, that the Banks County Commissioners established April 25 as Brother Jim McLendon Day in Banks County every year. In his honor, in 2020 the club has established an annual $1000 scholarship for a graduating senior that will pursue a career path in ministry or a related field.

*ROTARY SALUTES - Beginning in 2020 the Banks County Rotary Club initiated an annual distinguished service awards program to honor first responders and community servants.

*DOING GOOD FUND - With the long term goal of eventually creating a local foundation that will be able to help fund future good works and projects in Banks County from the interest earned, in 2020 the club started a savings endowment fund. The seed money ($5,000) was generated, in part, by a very generous matching contribution by the club founder, Jerry Boling, along with an operational budget surplus that year. Since then the club has developed a tradition of allocating the annual budget surplus, along with any other fundraising, to this fund.

🌮🏆 Tacos, S'mores, and a Banner Worth Celebrating!

When you're the District 6910 Club of the Year, every day is worth celebrating — and Cinco de Mayo gave us the perfect excuse to do it in style! 🎉

Last Tuesday, members of the Rotary Club of Banks County who were unable to attend the D6910 District Conference gathered for a festive Taco Night to share in the joy of our club's historic achievement. For the very first time in our 16-year history, we were officially named Club of the Year in the small club category — and that kind of milestone deserves more than one celebration!

The evening was everything a Rotary family gathering should be: great food, warm fellowship, and a whole lot of pride. Members filled their plates with tacos, swapped stories, and then gathered around the campfire for s'mores under the Georgia sky. 🔥

And the highlight of the night? The official unveiling of our Club of the Year pop-up banner — which our club gets to keep and proudly display at every meeting and event for the entire year ahead! Seeing that banner standing tall among our members made every moment of hard work and dedicated service feel absolutely worth it.

This club is living proof that Rotary's motto — "Service Above Self" — isn't just a phrase. It's a way of life. We are so incredibly proud of what our members have built together here in Banks County, and we are just getting started.

Rotary International connects 1.2 million members across the globe, united by a shared commitment to making the world a better place — one community at a time. Here in Homer, Georgia, that's exactly what we do.

Are you curious about Rotary? We would love to welcome you! The Rotary Club of Banks County meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at noon at Homer City Hall in downtown Homer, GA. Come experience a meeting, meet our members, and see if Rotary is the right fit for you. Guests are always warmly welcomed! 💛

🏆 What a weekend for the Rotary Club of Banks County!

We are beyond proud to share that our club returned from the Rotary District 6910 District Conference with some extraordinary honors — including a milestone we have worked toward for 16 years.

🥇 CLUB OF THE YEAR — For the very first time in our club's history, we have been named Club of the Year in the small club category! This recognition belongs to every member who has shown up, served, and made a difference in Banks County and beyond.

🌟 R.L. Panyik Leadership Award — Our President, Tricia Massey, was honored with this prestigious award, given to just four club presidents out of approximately 80 clubs across the district. Named in honor of Past District Governor Rich Panyik, it celebrates exceptional leadership — and Tricia embodies it every single day.

📣 Zone Public Image EPIC Award — Platinum Level — We earned the highest possible recognition for our public relations and marketing efforts. Thank you to everyone who helped tell our story!

🏅 Governor's Citation — Our club also received this honor for excellent club operations, a testament to the dedication and heart of our entire membership.

These awards reflect the spirit of Rotary's motto: "Service Above Self." We serve because Banks County deserves it — and because together, we can change the world.

Are you looking for a way to connect, lead, and serve in your community? We'd love to have you join us! The Rotary Club of Banks County meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at noon at Homer City Hall in downtown Homer, GA.

Great day with the Banks County Rotary Club!

A big thank you to Jackson EMC for hosting our meeting yesterday, providing a delicious lunch, and giving us a tour of the solar flower garden. It was an informative and engaging field trip as we wrapped up our month focused on Environmental Issues.

We also want to congratulate Rick Billingslea on receiving his 2-year Paul Harris recognition—an outstanding achievement and a testament to his commitment to service.

We appreciate the opportunity to learn, grow, and serve together!

Great day at Rotary as we continue finishing the year strong! Today’s meeting was full of updates, engagement, and a lot of fun.

We received updates on our current fundraisers and heard committee reports as we continue working to support our community. Becky Carlan and Vicki Jones brought the energy during our Fun Committee challenge—bringing a random item from their office—which ended in a tie and plenty of laughs.

Our Engagement Table was in full swing as members helped fill syrup bottles in preparation for our upcoming Pancake Supper. Join us tomorrow night at 5:00 PM at Homer United Methodist Church. Tickets are $10, and all proceeds will go toward a Banks County High School senior scholarship.

Doug Cheek provided a Foundation update, encouraging members to stay informed and engaged with the work of the Paul Harris Foundation and its impact around the world.

We also celebrated our April birthdays: Vicki Jones, Charles Turk, and Dr. Ann Hopkins—thank you for all you do for our club and community!

A special thank you to AG Parts Supply for their continued support.

Our guest speaker, Rebecca Cantrell, MPH, with the UGA Financial, Housing, and Consumer Economics Extension Office, shared valuable information and even provided free radon kits for attendees.

It’s a great time to be part of Rotary in Banks County—serving, connecting, and making a difference together.
