📜 This Day in History — February 22
International Freemason Day
On this day, Freemasons around the world pause to reflect on the Craft and its influence on history, character, and service.
International Freemason Day was established in 1995 by the Grand Orient of Brazil, following a recommendation from North American Grand Masters, and it deliberately coincides with the birthday of George Washington, born February 22, 1732.
Washington wasn’t just a statesman and military leader—he was a working Mason who embodied the principles of duty, restraint, leadership, and service to something greater than self. His legacy reminds us that Freemasonry is not about titles or secrets, but about conduct.
International Freemason Day isn’t a celebration of prestige.
It’s a reminder of responsibility.
To govern ourselves before governing others.
To serve our communities quietly and consistently.
To live the values we were taught—on the job, at home, and in public.
From lodge rooms to work sites, from past to present, the work continues.
