Help us Welcome Lisa Ottum to Holmen High School!

🏀 HOLMEN GIRLS BASKETBALL COACHING ANNOUNCEMENT! 🏀

The Holmen High School Activities Office is excited to announce Lisa Ottum as the new Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at Holmen High School!

A familiar face in the Holmen community, Ottum brings an impressive basketball background, years of coaching experience, and a passion for helping student-athletes succeed both on and off the court.

Originally from La Crosse, Ottum played basketball at Logan High School, where she helped lead her team to a State Tournament appearance during her sophomore year. She continued her basketball career at Viterbo University from 1998–2002, where she earned All-American honors, helped her team capture a conference championship and advance to the national tournament, and set school records for three-pointers made in a season and career. Her accomplishments also earned her a place on Viterbo's Wall of Fame.

Ottum began her coaching career as the Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach in Pepin before joining the School District of Holmen, where she has taught kindergarten for the past 21 years. During that time, she spent three seasons coaching at Holmen High School under Duane Vike, eight years coaching youth basketball in the community, and most recently served as the Vikings' Varsity Assistant Coach during the 2025–2026 season.

"I am extremely excited to continue coaching, as the Head Girls Basketball Coach, in our Holmen community. Working alongside these amazing athletes, watching them grow both on and off the court, and sharing in their hard work and success is the best part of what I do. I'm looking forward to learning, building strong bonds, and making great memories together. Let's get after it!" — Lisa Ottum

Also joining the varsity coaching staff in a new role is Gabby Richie, who has been named Varsity Assistant Coach after previously serving as the Vikings' JV Coach.

Please join us in congratulating Lisa and Gabby as they step into their new roles and prepare for an exciting season of Holmen Girls Basketball!

Go Vikings! ❤️🏀

A special shoutout to our Holmen Freshman Football players and parents who stepped up to volunteer in the concession stands during one of the busiest Friday night football games ever. Your willingness to serve made a difference!
This is what being part of a community looks like.

Although Onalaska may be our neighbor to the south, Carter is no stranger to the Holmen community. Through years of youth hockey and competing against Holmen in high school sports, Carter has built friendships and connections that go far beyond school colors. 💜

Those of us who know Carter are devastated for him and his family as they face a long road of recovery ahead. Tomorrow night, we have an opportunity to come together—not just as Holmen and Onalaska, but as one community supporting one of our kids.

🏈 Holmen @ Onalaska
📅 Friday, September 4
⏰ Kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
📍 Onalaska High School Stadium
💜 Miracle Minute at the end of the 1st quarter

If you’re heading to the game, please consider contributing during the Miracle Minute to help support Carter and his family. Every dollar and every show of support matters.

Tomorrow night we may be rivals on the field, but we’re all on Team Carter. 💜🏒

Please share and help us fill that Miracle Minute with support for Carter and his family.
