Introducing - Troy Sowders
Holly Hill YMCA Senior Program Director
A message from Troy
Dear Sports Families,
I hope this message finds you well. I am excited to introduce myself and share how much I look forward to serving you and your children through our sports programs.
My name is Troy, and I recently joined the Holly Hill YMCA team. I was born and raised in Indiana and moved to Florida four years ago. Sports have been a lifelong passion of mine. As a former college basketball player, avid basketball enthusiast, and basketball trainer/shooting instructor with more than 30 years of experience, I have dedicated my career to helping young athletes develop their skills, confidence, character, and love for the game.
My wife, Amy, and I met in college, and we are blessed with three daughters: Lenzie, Corie, and Rylie. Family has always been at the center of everything we do, and I understand the important role youth sports play in creating lasting memories and valuable life lessons.
Over the past 30 years, I have had the privilege of leading sports, recreation, childcare, youth development, and summer camp programs across multiple YMCA associations and organizations. Most recently, I served as Operations Director and Regional Sports Director for the Dye Clay YMCA in Orange Park, Florida…part of the YMCA of Florida's First Coast, where I helped expand sports participation, develop new programming opportunities, and oversee facility improvements. Prior to that, I spent 10 years with the YMCA of Southwestern Indiana (Evansville, Indiana), where I expanded sports participation to 27 individual sports and over 400 programs while also being recognized as the area's best.
In addition to my YMCA experience, I founded and operated Kingdom Sports and the Fundamentals Basketball Academy, growing the organization from a single participant to more than 6,000 athletes over a 15-year period and four academy divisions. I am also proud to have served for 10 years in the Indiana Army National Guard as a Combat Medic and Medical Section Chief.
While I am passionate about sports, my greatest passion is building programs that strengthen communities, develop young athletes, encourage family involvement, and create opportunities for mentorship, personal growth, and positive life experiences. My goal is to provide an environment where every child feels welcomed, supported, challenged, and encouraged to succeed both on and off the field or court.
I am excited about the future of sports at the Holly Hill YMCA and look forward to partnering with your family. Please feel free to stop by, introduce yourself, and share your thoughts, ideas, and feedback. I look forward to meeting each of you and working together to create an outstanding experience for our athletes and families.
Thank you for being part of our YMCA family.
