Feline Community Network Resource Center & Cat-themed Gift Shop Feline Community Network is a 501C3 nonprofit feline resource center, sanctuary, and cat-themed gift shop in Hobart, IN, just east of I-65.

We’re here to support cats and the people who care for them through education, spay/neuter programs, community outreach, and partnerships with local rescues and animal control agencies. 💔 Sadly, We’ve Made the Decision to Cancel Our Upcoming Pancake Breakfast.

Despite our efforts to promote the event, ticket sales simply haven’t been enough to make it possible to move forward.

It’s disappointing, especially knowing how much these fundraisers mean to the cats in our care and the community programs we work so hard to provide.

We’ve also made the difficult decision to step away from hosting fundraising events outside of FCN for the foreseeable future.

The reality is that we’re struggling to generate enough interest and participation to justify the time, expense, and energy that go into planning these events. We understand that schedules are busy, priorities change, and attending community events isn’t always possible. Unfortunately, we’ve found that getting enough participation to make these fundraisers successful has become increasingly challenging.

While we understand that times and interests have changed, it’s still discouraging when so much work goes into creating opportunities for the community to come together, only to see limited participation.

Fundraising isn’t something we do for fun. It’s what keeps our doors open, our cats cared for, and our community programs running.

To everyone who purchased tickets, shared our posts, or helped promote the breakfast, thank you. We genuinely appreciate your support. Those who purchased tickets will receive refunds next week.

For now, we’ll focus our energy on activities here at FCN and finding other ways to generate the support needed to continue our mission.

Sometimes you have to recognize when something simply isn’t working and make changes accordingly. 💔

🐾 SMALL CROWD, BIG IMPACT! 🐾

Today was our final cat food and litter distribution for October, and while the crowd was smaller than anticipated, we still managed to get a couple hundred pounds of cat litter, dry cat food, and dozens upon dozens of cans of wet food into the hands of local families caring for their cats! ❤️

Every bag of food, every can, and every pound of litter helps ease the financial burden for a family and keeps cats happy, healthy, and in their homes. That’s what our community programs are all about!

💙 A HUGE thank you to our wonderful volunteers who gave their time today! Whether you were helping with our pantry distribution or working inside caring for the cats, we appreciate every minute you gave us. We couldn’t do this without you!

📅 LOOKING AHEAD! Yes we said last one would be today's, BUT we decided to host one more next month depending on the weather on Saturday, November 14th, just ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday!

This distribution is planned to be OPEN TO RESIDENTS THROUGHOUT ALL OF LAKE & PORTER COUNTIES!

We’re still working out the details and availability of supplies, so please keep an eye on our page for updates and announcements.

Thank you for continuing to support Feline Community Network and our mission of helping cats AND the people who love them. 🐱💕

💔 Three years ago today, we closed the doors on FCN 2.0 for the very last time.

I remember that day like it was yesterday. The final walk-through, the empty rooms, the silence where there had once been so much life. So many memories, so many cats, so many lives changed within those walls.

I cried that day. Not because I didn’t believe in what was ahead, but because leaving behind a place that held so much of your heart is never easy.

And here we are, three years later.

If only I had known then what the next three years would bring.

We’ve celebrated incredible victories, welcomed new faces, said heartbreaking goodbyes, faced financial struggles, overcome obstacles we never imagined, and questioned more than once how we would keep moving forward.

Our organization has changed. Our mission has evolved. We’ve learned that helping cats isn’t always about taking another one through our doors. Sometimes it’s about helping the people who care for them, preventing suffering before it begins, and building resources our community desperately needs.

FCN 3.0 has been anything but easy.

There have been days of tremendous pride and days of complete exhaustion. Days when the support of our community reminded us why we started, and days when I wondered whether we could continue.

But through it all, one thing hasn’t changed: my belief that every cat deserves compassion and that our community deserves an organization willing to work toward lasting solutions.

Looking back at that post from three years ago, I see someone filled with excitement, hope, and big dreams. I still have those dreams. They’ve just been shaped by three more years of reality, experience, and lessons learned.

I miss FCN 2.0. I miss the people, the memories, the simplicity of certain things back then. And I will forever carry the cats we saved and the ones we couldn’t with me.

But I’m also proud of how far we’ve come, even if the journey looks nothing like I imagined it would.

Three years later, we’re still here. Still fighting. Still adapting. Still believing there is a better way to help cats and the people who love them.

To everyone who has been part of this journey, whether you’ve been here since the beginning or just recently found us, thank you. ❤️

Here’s to the memories behind us, the challenges in front of us, and whatever the next chapter holds.

🎃 SO THE LAST POST, WE TALKED HOW QUICKLY DONATIONS POUR IN FOR AN ANIMAL IN CRISIS AND HOW QUIET IT GETS WHEN ASKING FOR HELP PREVENTING ONE.

Now, here’s where animal welfare needs to have a serious conversation.

❓ 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗼 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲’𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗱?

Because the pattern is exhausting 😪.

‼️An animal suffers.
‼️A fundraiser goes up.
‼️The community scrambles to raise thousands.

And 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗱, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱.

‼️Another emergency.
‼️Another fundraiser.
‼️Another desperate plea.

SAME NIGHTMARE. DIFFERENT ANIMAL. 👻
And round and round we go 🔁 .

We’re not saying stop donating to medical cases. We’re asking why prevention isn’t receiving that same urgency and generosity.

❓ 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘁?

Spay/neuter. Early veterinary care. Support that helps keep animals in their homes and out of overcrowded shelters.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻𝗲.

Prevention won’t stop every emergency. But it CAN stop many of the situations we keep scrambling to fix.

WE’VE MADE SAVING AN ANIMAL A REASON TO CELEBRATE. BUT PREVENTING AN ANIMAL FROM EVER NEEDING TO BE SAVED? THAT BARELY GETS A SECOND LOOK.

And that’s where our priorities deserve some serious reflection.

Because rescue and prevention should never be competing against each other.

𝗕𝗨𝗧 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀.

WE CAN’T KEEP THROWING MONEY AT THE CONSEQUENCES WHILE STARVING THE SOLUTION.

And until that changes, we’ll keep seeing the same heartbreaking stories, the same desperate fundraisers, and the same overwhelmed animal welfare system.

Because celebrating a rescue matters. But so does funding the work that makes fewer rescues necessary.

💬 Let’s talk about it. Have we become so attached to the emotional payoff of funding a rescue that we overlook the impact of funding prevention?

We want to hear your thoughts in the comments below, even if you disagree. 👇🏼

🐾 LAST CAT FOOD & LITTER DISTRIBUTION OF THE SEASON! 🐾

📅 Saturday, October 31, 2026
⏰ 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM OR WHILE SUPPLIES LAST!

RESIDENTS OF HOBART, LAKE STATION, NEW CHICAGO, AND PORTAGE ONLY.

📍 Feline Community Network
1001 W. 37th Ave., Hobart, IN

We’re hosting our final cat food and litter distribution of the season to help local families care for their feline companions.

🐱 Dry Cat Food
🐱 Wet Cat Food
🐱 Cat Litter

🚨 PLEASE NOTE: SUPPLIES ARE VERY LIMITED! 🚨

THIS IS NOT ONE OF OUR LARGE PANTRY DISTRIBUTIONS!

IMPORTANT DISTRIBUTION GUIDELINES:

🐾 FIRST 50 VEHICLES ONLY — OR UNTIL SUPPLIES RUN OUT, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST!

🐾 ONE FAMILY PER VEHICLE.

🐾 At least one resident per vehicle must present a valid form of ID.

🐾 CAT SUPPLIES ONLY — NO DOG FOOD OR DOG SUPPLIES.

🐾 NOT FOR RESCUE GROUPS, SHELTERS, OR ORGANIZATIONS. This distribution is intended for individual households needing assistance feeding their cats.

🚨 ARRIVING EARLY DOES NOT GUARANTEE SUPPLIES. DISTRIBUTION MAY END BEFORE 11:00 AM.

❤️ A NOTE TO OUR NEIGHBORING COMMUNITIES:

Please don’t think we’re intentionally excluding anyone from surrounding cities. We know how expensive gas is, and the last thing we want is for someone to drive all this way only to turn around and go home empty-handed.

Because this is a small distribution with very limited supplies, we’re keeping it local and being upfront about what we have available.

We truly wish we could help everyone, but as a community-funded nonprofit, we can only distribute what has been donated.

Thank you for understanding, supporting our mission, and helping us make a difference for cats and the families who love them.

Line forms behind our building on the gravel roadway. There will be a cone where the start will be. Please remain in your vehicle.

Would anyone have some time tomorrow around 1:00 pm to help us break down and remove steel shelving in Valpo? My husband broke his finger and not able to help us. 😳
