What a beautiful way to begin the celebration of America's 250th birthday!

This morning, members of the Exchange Club of Hilo and the Aloha Exchange Club came together at Liliʻuokalani Gardens for this year's A Salute to Our Veterans Hilo Bay 5K Walk/Run and our cherished "Give a Kid a Flag to Wave" project.

There is something truly special about seeing our community unite to honor those who have served our country while sharing the joy and pride of our nation's flag with the next generation. Moments like these remind us that service, gratitude, and kindness bring us together and strengthen the bonds of our community.

A huge mahalo to VFW Post 3830 and the many volunteers who made today's event possible. Your dedication, hard work, and commitment to serving our community are deeply appreciated. Thank you for bringing everyone together for such a meaningful and memorable morning.

As we wrap up the month of June, we're reflecting on a month filled with service, celebration, and meaningful moments in our community.

🇺🇸 June 12 – Flag Day Ceremony
Members of the Exchange Club of Hilo were honored to participate in the Flag Day Ceremony at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. It was a meaningful opportunity to pay tribute to our nation's flag and honor the veterans whose service and sacrifice continue to inspire us.

🏆 Celebrating National Rookie of the Year
June also brought an exciting milestone as we recognized and honored our very own Aspen Taylor Hanohano, who will be traveling to Omaha, Nebraska, to receive the National Rookie of the Year Award.

When Aspen joined the Exchange Club of Hilo, her goal was simple—to serve, make a difference, and be part of something bigger than herself. Along the way, she discovered that Exchange is more than an organization; it is a family dedicated to service, leadership, and building stronger communities.

She shared heartfelt gratitude to her mentors—Uncle Curtis, Uncle Francis, and Uncle Ivan—for believing in her, encouraging her growth, and reminding her that age should never limit the impact one person can make. Aspen's passion for serving others, advocating for children, and representing Hawaiʻi embodies the very values of Exchange. We are incredibly proud of her accomplishment and know she will represent both the Exchange Club of Hilo and Hawaiʻi with pride on the national stage. Congratulations, Aspen!

We had the privilege of celebrating Exchange Club of Hilo Children's Day with the wonderful preschoolers at Hilo Hongwanji. From the excitement of Sōmen Nagashi to the laughter, smiles, and summer fun, it was a beautiful reminder that serving others fills your own heart, too. Seeing the joy on the children's faces made for a truly memorable day.

Mahalo to everyone who volunteered, participated, and continues to support the mission of the Exchange Club of Hilo. Together, we are making a difference through service, leadership, and a shared commitment to building a stronger community.
