IT'S FINALLY UP 🤩🤩🤩

It’s aliiiive!

Our jellyfish is truly coming to life with the addition of some mega tentacles, reclaimed LED holiday lights, and a pulley to hoist it into the rafters where it will live as artwork for visitors to enjoy. We are now completing the structure that Boys & Girls Club of the Big Island began this summer, thanks to a lot of material donations, interest and volunteer power (mahalo !)

Our jellyfish is being created to clearly showcase problems our community faces with single-use plastics - and how there really isn’t such a thing as ‘throwing it away’ - it’s just going out of sight/out of mind, but always present, just in a different environment.

It’s also notable that sea creatures that eat jellyfish can’t always tell the difference between a jellyfish and a plastic bag, resulting in big problems.

Our obligation to find alternatives to these materials is clear. What alternatives do we have to plastic packaging? Let’s think about how we use plastic in our daily lives and how we can start limiting or eliminating it from our daily patterns. It could be as simple as carrying a reusable water bottle with us at all times - or as involved as developing a new way to package things we sell to consumers. Moving the needle, even slightly, gets us closer to where we should be.

Such an awesome experience!😊

Such an awesome experience!😊

This summer we hosted the Boys & Girls Club of the Big Island for several summer camp sessions. No surprise that our trip to the beach to explore tide pools and complete a beach cleanup with the support of was a highlight!

The beach is a beautiful place to learn, but we have an obligation to the life that is here, and not to take what we find. Let’s leave the shells, coral and lava rocks behind so that others who come after us have a chance to enjoy and marvel at the beauty and power of our oceans.

The Hawai’i Keiki Museum is set on teaching conservation and stewardship for keiki today and in the future.

Awesome job to our keiki! Glad their artwork will be displayed in Hawai'i Keiki Museum🤩

Boys & Girls Club of the Big Island was on site with us this summer. We had so much fun, so we are planning more programs for keiki to come and experience our space.
Thanks to Makana, Carson, Mason, Kayla and Toni-Lee for this beautiful mural on our picnic table.
