A months-long crackdown on medical ma*****na by federal prosecutors has reached new heights with this week's raids on Oakland dispensaries. It's time to call off the overboard tactics and deal sensibly with regulating a...

great letter to the editor in the Tribune Herald on Tuesday...

http://hawaiitribune-herald.com/sections/commentary/your-views/your-views-march-27.html

“Stoned driving draws concern” (Tribune-Herald, March 19) is of great interest, particularly to Hawaii’s cannabis patients. The article mentions a suburban Denver woman who suffers from multiple sclerosis. She needs cannabis to ease tremors which require that her body be completely saturated with TH...

Wednesday March 21st 2012 National Day of Action on Syringe Exchange
YOU can make a difference in Hawaii!!

PLEASE TAKE 5 MINUTES ON WEDNESDAY MARCH 21 TO HELP SAVE LIVES
Call or email Senator Inouye and ask him to support the use of federal
funds for syringe exchange. A ban on the use of federal funds was
reimposed in December. Congress should revert to the 2010 budget
language. (See Below)

Why?
The CDC has concluded that HIV among people who inject has decreased by
nearly 80% because of syringe exchange programs in the U.S. Syringe
exchange is an evidence-based intervention for HIV prevention and should
be eligible for federal funds.

What about Hawaii?
In Hawaii we have had a statewide syringe exchange program for over 20
years. HIV rates in Hawaii are much lower than the national average. The
program in Hawaii still needs access to federal funds.

PLEASE TAKE 5 MINUTES ON WEDNESDAY MARCH 21 TO HELP SAVE LIVES

Call Sen. Inouye's office in Honolulu at 808-541-2542:
"Hello, my name is ____ and I live in ____. Thank you for supporting
syringe exchange in Hawaii. Please restore Congress's Fiscal Year 2010
language that allows federal funds to be used for syringe exchange. We
need Senate champions on this issue and hope Senator Inouye, given the
success of syringe exchange in Hawaii, will consider speaking out on
this issue. Thank you for your time!"

OR Email Sen. Inouye at http://inouye.senate.gov/Contact/ContactDKI.cfm

"Dear Senator Inouye, my name is ____ and I live in ____. I wanted to
thank you for your support of syringe exchange in Hawaii. Because of it
we have a much lower rate of HIV than areas that haven't had syringe
access. Please restore Congress's Fiscal Year 2010 language that allows
federal funds to be use for syringe exchange because it is an
evidence-based HIV prevention intervention. I hope you will advocate for
this language that supports federal funding for syringe exchange in the
upcoming programmatic appropriations request letter due March 29th. We
need Senate champions on this issue and hope that given the success of
syringe exchange in Hawaii, you will consider speaking out on this
issue. Thank you for your time and support."

Aloha Big Island ASA members...

I just wanted to let you know that SB 2262, which would make medical ma*****na consistent with the patient's pain bill of rights, passed the Senate's third reading, 25-0 and moves on to the House! It is likely to be assigned to the Health, Public Safety and Judiciary committees, and would need to be scheduled for hearings to move forward. We will keep you posted when testimony is needed.

This is some good news! We are half way there!
