CLPHIʻs Madeline Tomasino-Reed spoke to Honolulu Civil Beat regarding concerning accounts of foster children sleeping in hotels and state offices and how a lack of support for Resource Caregivers contributes to challenges in placing children with higher needs.

UPDATED: Fourteen children slept in offices and hotels in the last year.

Yesterday, CLPHI, in partnership with the Attorney General’s Office, was thrilled to celebrate 15 children exiting state custody through adoptions and guardianships! Thank you to everyone who helped make the Maui ʻOhana Day a huge success!!

`Ohana Day is a special event focused on helping youth celebrate their adoption or guardianship, marking their exit from foster care. The Children’s Law Project of Hawaiʻi is excited to expand our work beyond Hawai`i Island and tackle the backlog of permanency cases on Maui.

`Ohana Day is a special collaboration between CLPHI, the Hawai`i State Judiciary, the Department of Human Services, and the Attorney General’s office.
