Akaka Foundation for Tropical Forests The vision of the Akaka Foundation for Tropical Forests is, "vibrant forest communities alive with the voices of Hawai‘i from one generation to the next."

The Akaka Foundation for Tropical Forests was founded in honor of former United States Senator Daniel K. Akaka, and in recognition of his lifelong commitment to the protection and promotion of Hawaii’s natural and cultural resources. To these ends, the Foundation supports place-based efforts that seek to protect and restore native tropical forests, including reducing or eliminating threats that de

grade Hawaii’s biocultural heritage. There are three primary components of our mission: Bicultural Stewardship, Sustainable Livelihoods, and Bicultural Education. We were honored to spend time on ʻāina with two amazing volunteers who joined us all the way from California during their vacation to Hawaiʻi.
