Hilo High School Foundation The Hilo High School Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization, and are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

The Hilo High School Foundation was formed in 1990, with the purpose of creating and maintaining an endowment fund that would fund educational programs and activities at Hilo High School that would not or could not be funded from State of Hawaii funds. The Hilo High School Foundation annually provides the school with the interest earnings for distribution to programs. A committee designated by the

Principal solicits and reviews proposals from faculty for new and innovative programs that benefit the educational experience of Hilo High School students. To date, the Foundation has distributed a total of over $522,000 to Hilo High School.

Join us as we recognize Senator Lorraine R. Inouye, HHS Class of 1958!

Lorraine R. Inouye’s distinguished political career spans over five decades, starting with a seat on the Hawai‘i County Council in 1984. She served as Mayor of Hawai‘i County before being elected to the Hawai‘i State Senate. Inouye currently serves as Senator for District 1. She holds such key positions in the Senate as Majority Whip, Chair of the Senate Transportation Committee (TRS), and Vice Chair of the Senate Water, Land, Culture and Arts Committee (WLA). She is also a member of the Senate Ways and Means Committee (WAM) and Public Safety and Military Affairs (PSM).

Glenn Furuya, president and CEO of Leadership Works, has spent nearly 50 years helping many of Hawaii’s most prominent individuals and organizations achieve success. Furuya founded Leadership Works in 1982, blending his educational background with practical business experience to form the foundation of his life’s work as a teacher, author and consultant to some of Hawaii’s most prominent companies.

Join us as we recognize Jerry Chang, Hilo High School Class of 1965!

Jerry Chang served in the State House of Representatives for 24 years. He was a strong and steadfast advocate on behalf of Hawaii Island and its residents, including many Capital Improvement Projects (CIPs) benefitting East Hawaii. After retiring from elective politics, Chang served as Director of University Relations at UH Hilo and continues his involvement with a number of local non-profits.
