We have only had TWO adult dog adoptions in the last few weeks. Our shelter is bursting with so many amazing dogs who would like to celebrate their 4th of July freedom in a home.

We are offering FREE adoptions for all dogs 1 year old or older through July 11.

Pictured here from left to right are: Petunia (who is a puppy and not part of the adult special), Wayne, Chance, Coco, Chompy and May.

Come and find your new best friend!

Due to the possibility of severe weather, the shelter will be closing at 2 p.m. today, June 17.

Please make sure your pets are wearing ID collars with your phone number and ensure your emergency plan includes where you will put them in the event of tornados or damaging hail.

Stay safe everyone!

Remembe the puppies and mama dog we posted a few days ago?

Well a wonderful person stepped up to foster them so we were able to get them from the Parke County Sheriff's office (which is where the puppies were born).

We are going to have these puppies and the mom for at least eight weeks and we want to be able to provide the foster with any thing she may need.

You can help us continue to save families like this one with donations.

If you would like to help us support these puppies and the other animals we are currently caring for you can donate online at https://www.mypvchs.org/monetary-donations or mail a check to PVCHS, 1884 S. State Road 63, Hillsdale, IN 47854. You can also drop off a check or cash donations at the shelter. Please reference the Parke County Puppies in your messaging so we know this is something important to you.

We know this is a long-shot, but does anyone recognize this dog? She was found on Sunday, June 7 laying on the road near Ditzler Orchard in Parke County. She was laying on top of an open bag of dog food. It seems most likely she was dumped, but if someone somewhere recognizes her, please let us know. She is currently safe at the home of the person who found her. If you have info; please email Connie Swaim at [email protected]

This mama dog and her six puppies need your help. The Parke County Sheriff's Department picked up this dog and she gave birth to six puppies on June 7.

The shelter is willing to take responsibility for her and the puppies, but we would need a foster home for the family. The shelter is no place for puppies.

We need someone who will commit to fostering the mom and pups for at least five weeks; after that we could possibly split the puppies up into groups of 2 or 3 who would then need to be fostered until they were 8 or 9 weeks old.

If someone wanted to commit to fostering the pups for the full 8 or 9 weeks that would also be awesome but we know once they become active it can be difficult to ask someone to keep them all together.

The shelter will supply all food, puppy pads, etc. The foster will need to bring them in ocassionally to the shelter for vaccinations and checkups.

We have NO info on this dog other than she is said to be sweet. We do not know how she is with dogs, cats or kids. And she would need a space where she would not be around other dogs or even small children until the puppies are larger. Many mama dogs are very protective of their puppies and should not be exposed to other dogs and it is best to keep the human traffic to a minimum until the puppies are at least 4 weeks.

But, if you have a spare bedroom or or a home without other dogs; and want to have the joy of raising puppies without the committment of paying for them forever; this is your chance. And best of all; the foster person gets to name them.

We do have experienced puppy raisers on hand to answer any questions you might have as well.

If you are interested in fostering this family; please call the shetler at 765-492-3540 and ask to speak to the shelter manager. We will not be able to save this dog and family without a foster family on board.

What is more patriotic than adopting a pet?

As our nation gets ready to celebrate 250 years we want you to have the perfect companion. All of our dogs that are 1 year old or older are now FREE through July 11.

All of them are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccines and are microchipped and they are still FREE.

Added bonus; the dogs all come with free behavior advice if you get them home and have any issues whatsoever!

Below are photos of some of the dogs available for this special. This is by no means all of them. Come and check them out. During nice weather you don't even have to go into the shelter to see most of them as they are outside during the day playing in yards.

The shelter is open for adoptions from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. But, if you have issues making that time frame and you have a specific animal to see; give us a call and make an appointment to see the animal. We are very accommodating!
