🎓🌟 Scholarship Luncheon Day! 🌟🎓

Today we celebrated some of Hillsboro’s brightest students as we honored our 2026 Rotary Scholarship recipients.

For more than 50 years, the Hillsboro Rotary Scholarship Program has helped local students pursue their educational dreams, awarding over $800,000 in scholarships and supporting more than 300 students.

We’re proud to invest in the next generation of leaders, innovators, educators, healthcare professionals, entrepreneurs, and community changemakers.

Congratulations to this year’s recipients—we are cheering you on as you begin your next chapter! 🎉

We are proud of Hillsboro Rotary Club’s, Jim Dooman. For the past two and a half years Jim has been volunteering several days a week at the Hillsboro PD. He is part of a team that is working on digitizing thousands of police reports. At a recent volunteers appreciation dinner Chief Coleman awarded Jim the volunteer of the year award.

Congratulations to Sean Lenahan, Hillsboro Rotary Club Student of the Month from Hillsboro High School! Along with teachers Melissa Emmory and Robyn Morehouse Anderson, Sean joined us to celebrate his award and tell us more about himself and his plans for the future.

Sean moved here from Colorado in time to start as a freshman year at Hillhi. Not surprisingly, he's met some amazing people and enjoyed his time in Hillsboro. He's a volunteer at Shute Park Library, started a club for Dungeons and Dragons, and is nearing completion of the requirements to receive his IB Diploma.

After graduation, Sean plans to attend OSU as part of the honors program. He'll pursue a degree in biomedical engineering, with a goal of designing medical devices. We look forward to benefiting from Sean's work in the coming years and wish him all the best.

Congratulations to Sarah Aden, Hillsboro Rotary Club Student of the Month from Glencoe High School! Sarah, her parents, Jamad Warsame and Abdirizak Hassan, and teacher Mr. Yerlick joined us to celebrate her achievement.

Sarah transferred to Glencoe sophomore year, and was really lonely. She joined student government, which opened doors to new opportunities and friendships for her. She was able to volunteer and get involved, and is now ASB director of athletics and varsity tennis captain. Sarah feels that she thrives in leadership positions where she's able to collaborate with people and share ideas.

Looking to the future, Sarah plans to attend PSU and major in English on the pre-law track so that she can eventually become a lawyer. We wish her all the best as she graduates and continues her education!

Congratulations to Evelyn Cisneros, Hillsboro Rotary Club Student of the Month from Liberty High School! Along with teachers Ms. Kerbs and Ms. Hutchinson, and her aunt, Yazmin Hernandez, Evelyn celebrated her achievement with us and shared a bit about herself.

When she started at Liberty her sophomore year, Evelyn didn't know anyone, had limited English skills, and missed her mom and brother. Reminding herself that she was seeking a better future, she pushed forward, and got involved in AVID. Through AVID she gained academic tools and a sense of belonging and confidence. Evelyn is now involved in clubs, including MEChA and Chicas Adelantes, and is passionate about helping others, especially those on a path similar to hers.

After graduation, Evelyn plans to continue her education with dual enrollment at PCC and PSU, pursuing a career in healthcare so that she can serve others. We wish her all the best in the years to come!

Congratulations to Alessandro Diaz, Hillsboro Rotary Club Student of the Month from Oak Street Campus! Alessandro and his guest, counselor Jem Wong, celebrated his award with us, and Alessandro shared a little about himself.

First, thanks were expressed to those who nominated him and to Rotary for the recognition. Alessandro wanted to be a doctor as a child, and through school, he was able to shadow doctors and nurses at a clinic in Portland. There, he met a patient whose attitude and advice made a big impact. The advice? Make them laugh. By making people laugh, you can make a deeper connection, create community, and unity. Alessandro has definitely taken that advice to heart!

Next year, Alessandro plans to attend Purdue or Tulane and pursue a biochemistry degree and hopes to become a doctor. We look forward to visiting him when he's a doctor who makes us laugh!
