God Made A Masterpiece When He Made You

Summary:

Walk into a museum and you can tell the difference between a random work and a masterpiece. A masterpiece is deliberate, the work of a master, with every detail chosen on purpose. In Ephesians 2:10, Paul refuses to call your life an accident. He uses a word that means a crafted work, God's workmanship, His handiwork. In Part 3 of the series "Discovering Destiny," Pastor Rick Piña shows you four things that change everything once you see your life the way God sees it: you are a masterpiece and not an accident, the purpose was designed into you before you were born, you were custom-built for your exact calling, and a masterpiece was always meant to be displayed so the world can meet the Artist through the art. This is THE YEAR OF DISCOVERY, and you are not random. You are the work of God's own hands.

Key Nuggets:

1. God does not call your life an accident. He calls it His masterpiece.

2. No artist creates a masterpiece by accident. You were not thrown together; you were carefully crafted.

3. You may have been a surprise to your parents, but you were never a surprise to God.

4. You are not the artist of your life. You are the one who walks in what God already painted.

5. Identity comes before activity, so when you know who you are, what to do finally starts to make sense.

6. The very thing that makes you different is what the Artist built into you on purpose. Quit apologizing for the way He made you.

7. When a masterpiece is on display, it does not show the greatness of the masterpiece. It shows the greatness of the One who made it.

Protected For Such A Time As This

Key Nuggets:

1. Time after time after time, God was protecting me, and I didn't even know God.

2. A .357 Magnum to my head at 11 years old. A sawed-off shotgun on Southern Avenue. A knife at my throat. And God said, 'I was protecting you for your purpose.'

3. Even before you called out to Me, even before you gave Me your heart, I've always been there for you.

4. I was chosen in Him before I did anything. So it has to be all about God.

5. I'm not better than nobody. I'm not good. I'm still here because God is good, not because Rick Piña is good.

6. The Gospel is not 'I'm right and you're wrong.' The Gospel is we're all wrong, we all deserve hell, but by the grace of God He saved us and chose us.

7. I could have been dead or in jail, but for the grace of God. I've been protected for such a time as this.

God Planned You Before Time Began

We measure our whole lives by time. We count years, mark birthdays, and live by the calendar, so we naturally assume our destiny started the day we were born. But the Bible pushes the start date back further than we can imagine. 2 Timothy 1:9 says the grace for your purpose was given to you in Christ Jesus before time began. In Part 2 of the series "Discovering Destiny," Pastor Rick Piña shows you why a plan that predates time changes everything: grace you could never earn is grace you can never lose, your worst day on the calendar cannot cancel a decision God made before there was a calendar, and you were chosen and adopted on purpose, not by accident. This is THE YEAR OF DISCOVERY, and your destiny is older than time itself.

Key Nuggets:

1. Your destiny did not begin at your birth. It began in the heart of God before the world existed.

2. Grace was given before time began, which means you had nothing to do with earning it, and nothing you do can make you lose it.

3. What you did not earn by works, you cannot forfeit by failure. Grace does not run on your performance.

4. Everything that threatens you happens inside time, but your destiny was settled before time. Your worst Tuesday cannot undo a decision God made before there were Tuesdays.

5. God never changes His mind about the people He calls. Neither you nor the enemy can revoke what God made irrevocable.

6. You were not random; you were wanted. Stop auditioning for a part that is already yours.

7. God did not get stuck with you. He went looking for you. You were adopted because He wanted you, not because He needed you.

You Were Adopted Because He Wanted You.

Ephesians 1:5 tells you WHY He chose you, and the answer will heal something in you. He says it was always God's perfect plan to adopt you as His delightful children, and that this plan brings Him great pleasure. Adoption is never an accident. Nobody adopts by mistake. Adoption is the most deliberate, most intentional, most wanted form of belonging there is. A father has to go looking for an adopted child on purpose. And before time began, God looked, chose you, and decided to bring you into His own family, not because He needed you, but because He wanted you. You did not talk your way in. Love brought you in.

How this applies to you:

-- There are some people who feel like they are "stuck” raising a child they did not want. But to be clear, God did not get stuck with you; He went looking for you.

-- The verse says the plan brings God "great pleasure." You were not a duty He felt obligated to fulfill. You were a delight He chose to enjoy, and He wanted you before you could do anything to BE wanted.

-- Some of you have carried the feeling of being unwanted your whole life. Hear me today. Before there was time, before you could earn it or ruin it, God decided He wanted you in His family. That settles the question of whether you belong. You belong because the Father chose you, and His choice was made in love before the world began.

-- 1 Peter 1:20 ERV says Christ Himself "was chosen before the world was made." You were always part of God’s plan for this planet and this time! You are chosen, called, anointed, and appointed for such a time as this.

You Were Chosen On Purpose, Not By Accident.

Ephesians 1:4 says God chose you before He laid the foundation of the universe. Sit with the word CHOSEN. You were not random. You were not an extra in somebody else's story. You were not a leftover that God figured out how to use. Before the first star was ever hung, God looked across all of eternity, saw you, and chose you on purpose. The choosing came first. Your becoming simply follows the choosing. You are not out here trying to earn a place. You already have one.

How this applies to you:

-- Ephesians 1:4 TPT says God "chose us to be his very own... even before he laid the foundation of the universe!" Before the first sunrise, and before there was even a sun, God had already chosen you. Even if your parents tell you that you were not planned for by them, you were planned for by Him.

-- You were not random; you were wanted. God sent you to this planet at just the right time, for such a time as this.

-- The same verse says He chose you "so that we would be seen as holy in his eyes with an unstained innocence." He did not just choose you and leave you as you were. He chose what you would become and then went to work to make it so. The destination was decided before the journey began.

-- Being chosen by God is not a reward you won; it is a decision He made. Therefore, you have nothing to boast about.

-- Most people spend their whole lives trying to get picked. Stop auditioning for a part that is already yours.

-- Do you remember when the prophet showed up at David's house and was ready to anoint one of Jesse's sons to be the next king of Israel? When he asked Jesse to lay out all his sons, Jesse overlooked David. None of David's brothers even pointed out that David was not in the lineup. What I love is that when God has already picked you, it does not matter who overlooked you. What God has for you is for you!

You Cannot Lose In Time What God Gave You Before Time.

This is where the timing becomes your security. Everything that threatens you happens inside of time. Your failures happen in time. Your setbacks, your bad seasons, and your worst days all happen on the calendar. But your destiny was settled before the calendar existed. Think about that for a minute. Time cannot reach back before time to cancel what God decided there. Your worst Tuesday cannot undo a decision God made before there were Tuesdays.

How this applies to you:

-- Everything that threatens you happens inside time, but your destiny was settled before time. Time cannot reach back to cancel what God decided before time existed.

-- Your worst day on the calendar cannot undo a decision God made before there was a calendar.

-- Romans 8:30 ERV traces the whole chain: those He planned, "he also called... he also made right with him... he also gave his glory." Notice it is all settled, all the way to glory. In God's mind, the matter is already finished, and you are reading a story He has already seen the end of.

-- Romans 11:29 ERV says, "God never changes his mind about the people he calls. He never takes back his gifts." The word for that is irrevocable, and it means exactly what you think it means. God is not going to un-choose you over a bad season.

-- The devil would love you to think that you are just one mistake away from being outside of God's good graces. How could an action you take cause God to pull back his purpose and grace when he knew everything you would ever do and planned for you? He actually predestined you according to his foreknowledge of every decision you would make, good and bad, and he chose you anyway.

-- Neither you nor satan can revoke what God made irrevocable.

Grace Was Given Before You Could Earn It Or Lose It.

2 Timothy 1:9 makes one of the most radical claims about grace in all of Scripture: your purpose and the grace for it were allocated to you before time began. Think about what that means. You were not there. You had not been born, had not done one good thing, and had not made one mistake. There was no resume to read, no track record to evaluate, and no performance to reward. God made His decision about you in a moment when you contributed absolutely nothing. That is the very definition of grace. It is unearned, because there was no "you" yet to earn it. And what you could never earn, you can never lose.

How this applies to you:

-- Grace given before time began is grace you had nothing to do with earning.

-- 2 Timothy 1:9 ERV says God saved and chose you "not because of anything we ourselves did," but "because of his grace... given to us through Christ Jesus before time began." You were not in the room when the decision was made, and that is exactly the point.

-- You cannot take credit for a gift you were not even present to receive.

-- Titus 1:2 ERV says God promised you eternal life "before time began." Before there was a single day on the calendar, your future was secured by a promise from a God who cannot lie. The promise is older than the problem.

-- Here is what this does to performance-based religion. If grace was given before you did anything right, then your good behavior was never the reason you got it. And if your good behavior was never the reason you got it, then your bad behavior cannot be the reason you lose it. Grace does not run on your performance.

-- I'm an engineer. Engineers are trained to think logically. If I apply logic to what the Bible is teaching, then my conclusion is this: What you did not earn by works, you cannot forfeit by failure.

-- For years, I tried to be good enough to deserve what God already gave me before time existed. It was exhausting, and it was unnecessary. The decision was already made, and I was not the one who made it.
