BIG thanks to families at The Brook for helping us restock our shelves so we are ready to care for foster, adoptive and kinship families throughout our community.

Every item on this table will soon become part of someone’s story!

We talk a lot about showing up.

Sometimes showing up looks as simple as sitting down beside a child and reading a book together.

No big event. No special occasion. Just time, attention, and someone saying in a hundred small ways: you matter here.

We're starting to see a trend: The activity gives us a reason to gather. Relationship is what makes the experience matter!

After our Baseball & Softball Skills Clinic, caregivers told us how much the one-on-one attention meant to their kids. And we heard something very similar after our recent LEGO event.

At Tuesday's clinic, high school players spent their evening working alongside kids one at a time, showing them how to hold a bat, tossing another ball so they could try again, helping with a glove, offering encouragement and celebrating when something clicked.

Yes, they were teaching baseball and softball skills. But what caregivers noticed was something more. Someone was taking time with their child. Paying attention. Encouraging them. Showing them they matter.

To the high school players and adults who invested in these kids: you gave them more than an evening of baseball and softball. You created memories they will carry with them wherever they land! Thank you. ⚾🥎

Sometimes the smallest part of an event is actually the biggest.

At Saturday’s Lego Build With a Pro, children chose their own adult building partner. They chose their Lego set. They chose where to sit. And then they got to build.

A foster parent wrote to us afterward and pointed out something we don’t want to miss:

“Children in foster care so often don’t get to make many choices. Choices are often made for them.”

She watched her child’s volunteer partner continue offering choices throughout the afternoon … where to build, where they should sit, what she wanted to do herself. When something was difficult, he didn’t take over. He helped just enough for her to discover that she could do it.

And at the end of her beautiful note, this foster mom gave us perhaps the best description of why afternoons like this matter:

“For a few hours on Saturday she was just a normal kid building Legos with a friend.”

Wipes. Formula. LEGO sets. School supplies. All have moved between trusted nonprofits this month, going wherever they can do the most good.

Sometimes we have more than we need and get to share. Other times, one of these organizations has exactly what the families we serve need and shares with us. There is no competition; just people working together, making sure good resources don’t sit unused when they could be helping someone.

🎂 Some people make a cake. Cake4Kids of Greater Huntsville makes a memory!

Time and again, they go above and beyond to make birthdays, adoptions, and other special milestones feel truly special for the kids we have the privilege of knowing.

And just look at this one! From the tiny books to Dolly herself, every detail was created for this little girl and her big day. That kind of thoughtfulness is what turns a celebration into something a child remembers! 💕

Sometimes the most helpful person in the room is simply someone who has walked a similar road before.

A few minutes between these two foster moms meant shared experience, practical ideas, reassurance, and the kind of understanding that doesn’t require a lot of explanation.

So much of foster care is learning as you go. Having someone nearby who can say, “Here’s what helped us,” can make a hard moment feel a little more manageable.

This is community at its best: what one family has learned becomes something they can offer to the next. ❤️

Sometimes serving families looks like backpacks, special events and a room full of kids.

And sometimes it looks like sorting socks.

Every pair sorted and every bin organized helps create a place where caregivers can find what they need and children have choices waiting for them.

Three cheers for the volunteers who take care of all the little things that keep the Foster Closet running! ❤️ Drop them a 👏 in the comments!

We love when local businesses find their own unique way to come alongside the kids and families we serve. 💛

Shear Artistry Hair & Body Centre is collecting gift cards for teens and pre-teens experiencing foster care, and we are so grateful! Gift cards give older kids something especially valuable...the freedom to choose something for themselves!

Thank you, Shear Artistry, for seeing these young people and creating such an easy way for your clients and community to help them feel known and cared for.

Have you been looking to give back to your community, but may be unsure of where to start? 🤔
Look no further.
This month, Shear Artistry is collecting gift cards on behalf of the North Alabama Foster Closet to donate to teens and pre-teens in the foster care system. All we want to do is make them feel cared for 🫶🏼
Now you can give back while you get your hair done, or simply stop in and drop off your gift card of choice! Thank you for loving our community as much as we do 🙏🏻
