Some of you have heard me talk about Bethās āgreen machineā⦠the vehicle I lovingly named Karen because sheās so testy. š
Beth and I once filled the entire back with baskets while shopping for supplies. That trip ended with us stranded in Kisumu for two days when the steering column broke. On another trip, we were stuck for hours when a line broke, creating a full roadblock and an audience of curious Kenyans until some kind people helped us push it off the road. The fix by the roadside got āol Karen running again but caused the windows to stop working and they were stuck down and it rained the next day. Who knew surgical drapes could serve as a window cover š Zeal 12:11, Inc.
Most recently, the radiator blew and a random tractor driver towed them to the nearest townāonly to discover the brakes had also failed. Honestly, the radiator malfunction may have been a blessing because things could have turned tragic quickly.
Beth is a missionary who lives completely on donations and works countless hours serving others. When mission teams are at the clinic where she serves, 40 hours is just the beginning. She gives her time, her energy, and often her own resources to help the community around her.
She opens her home to missionaries and frequently offers her spare room to people who have traveled far for surgery at the clinic. Over the past five years she has personally helped me in more ways than I can countāopening her home to me, staying at the hospital with Keith while I was in surgery, helping arrange transportation during a chaotic time when I needed to get back to the States, and making sure I was cared for after emergency surgery.
These are just a few examples of the kind of person Beth is. She is one of the most caring and selfless people I know.
Right now Beth needs a dependable and safe vehicle to continue transporting supplies and supporting the mission teams that come to serve in the area. We are trying to raise $2,000 more, which will allow them to begin looking for a 2015 or newer vehicle that will be reliable and safe.
