Mrs. Stacey's Career Preparations class is starting Problem Solving Mondays! Surveys show that employers wish that employees had stronger problem solving skills. Throughout the year, Mrs. Stacey's students will work to improve their problem-solving skills through hands-on and mental challenges. Their perseverance and grit will be challenged. Their first task was to work on a jigsaw puzzle as a group. Some of the hidden challenges (that may seem small) included bringing their own seat to the table (without being instructed to do so), designating roles, creating a sorting system, and adjusting/adapting to unique problems such as which direction was "up" for the puzzle. While the students probably thought Mrs. Stacey wasn't paying attention to them, she was actually secretly observing their abilities to navigate small problems both independently and as a group. By the end of their 20 minute window the students had sorted by color and finished several portions of the edge of the puzzle.

What a great way to kick off the year with our Cowboy-themed Pep Rally! Thank you to everyone who came out this morning to support our Longhorns and Ladyhorns and help bring the energy!

Good luck to ALL of our teams, students, coaches, sponsors, and organizations as we get this year rolling. We are excited about what’s ahead!

🏈 HWY 290 BOWL CANNED FOOD DRIVE! 🥫
Harper ISD is excited to kick off a new tradition for our September 11 football game against Johnson City — the HWY 290 Bowl!
This friendly rivalry is about more than football. Both communities are coming together to give back, and all Harper ISD campuses will be collecting donations for the Fredericksburg Food Pantry.

Friday, September 4 – Friday, September 11
🥫 WHAT TO BRING
The food pantry has asked us to focus on the five items they need most, so please send ONLY the following:
• Peanut Butter
• Canned Vegetables
• Canned Soup
• Canned Fruit
• Canned Spaghetti Sauce — NO GLASS JARS, PLEASE!
📍 WHERE TO BRING IT
Elementary: Students may bring donations to their homeroom classroom.
Middle & High School: Students may bring donations to the cafeteria during enrichment, where our Cheer and MS and HS STUCO students will collect, count, and organize them.
We will keep a running total throughout the week and see just how much our Longhorn community can give back vs. the JC community before we take on Johnson City on September 11!
Help us make the first HWY 290 Bowl a tradition that celebrates competition, community, and giving back. 💚💛

🏃 SONORA CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL 🏃‍♀️

Our Longhorns and Ladyhorns competed extremely well today against some strong competition at the Sonora Cross Country Invitational!

👏 Every runner improved their time from last week!

A big congratulations to Ben, who finished 10th overall in the Varsity Boys race and ran this course 30 seconds faster than last year!

Proud of the effort, improvement, and determination from this group. Now it’s time to hone in on our home course and keep building!
