πŸš‚πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ A Rare Sight on the Delaware River Line! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸš‚

Railfans and local residents were treated to something special this week as the New York, Susquehanna & Western Railway Board of Directors Special rolled through Hancock, and Callicoon. Just a couple trips so not to worry about the noise folks!

Leading the train was newly painted NYSW Locomotive 3634, unveiled in a special patriotic red, white, and blue scheme honoring America’s 250th Birthday in 2026. The railroad recently announced that the design was selected by employees and symbolizes the NYS&W β€œpulling America forward” while celebrating the nation’s Semiquincentennial.

Behind the locomotive traveled a beautiful consist of vintage passenger equipment, including classic streamlined passenger cars reminiscent of the golden age of American rail travel. The train was operating as a private Board of Directors and executive special between Binghamton, Lackawaxen, and Callicoon.

A passenger car in Hancock & Callicoon? You’re not seeing things! The special excursion of the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway made a stop in Callicoon where its 190 passengers disembarked and enjoyed a luncheon to honor retiring longtime railway president, Nathan Fenno.

The train left from Binghamton and headed toward Narrowsburg to switch the cars around before picking up the passengers in Callicoon and heading back toward their original destination.

The event was in collaboration with the Callicoon Depot organization and the Callicoon Business Association.

For many along the Delaware River corridor, this was the most significant passenger train movement seen in years. The sight of historic passenger cars winding through the valley behind a commemorative locomotive served as a reminder of the rich railroad heritage that helped build communities like Hancock and Callicoon.

πŸ“Έ Did you catch the train?
Share your photos and videos below! We’d love to see images from Hancock and anywhere else along the route.

β€’ Keep headlights on and fully clear snow and ice from your vehicle.
β€’ Carry emergency supplies such as blankets, water, snacks, and a phone charger.
β€’ Stay clear of snowplows and give them plenty of room to work.

β€’ Use space heaters safely:
β€’ Keep them at least 3 feet away from anything flammable.
