2026 Wallace State Future Foundation Board Member Highlight: Tomesa Smith
A proud graduate of Wallace State Community College, Dr. Tomesa Smith has devoted more than 30 years to the college in a variety of leadership and educational roles, including math instructor, department chair, dean, vice president, and adult education coordinator. Even after retiring in 2018, she has continued serving students as an adjunct math instructor. Dr. Smith's career has been defined by a commitment to education, student success, and community service.
She earned degrees from Auburn University, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Athens State University and Wallace State Community College, and has received numerous professional honors, including the Outstanding Alumni Award from Athens State University in 2023. She also remains active in her church and community organizations throughout Cullman County.
She and her husband, Steve, have been married for 43 years and are proud parents of two grown children and grandparents to two beloved grandchildren. Family is at the center of her life, and she enjoys spending as much time with them as possible — whether attending sporting events, exploring Smith Lake, traveling to theme parks, or simply gathering together for quality time.
As a member of the Future Foundation Board for the past decade, she is honored to support an organization dedicated to helping students succeed. After a career spent working closely with students, hearing their struggles, celebrating their progress, and discussing their goals, she has seen firsthand the tremendous difference financial assistance can make in a student’s ability to achieve success. While scholarships remain a primary focus of the Foundation, she is especially proud of the board’s commitment to removing barriers, improving circumstances, and celebrating student accomplishments. As a Wallace State Community College graduate herself, she is passionate about helping students reach their own finish line and is proud to be part of a team focused on creating opportunities and making a lasting impact.
