Hey parents, you know the summer slide, right? It’s that magical time when kids forget everything they learned during the school year (including how to tie their shoes and why we can't eat cookies for breakfast). But fear not! We’ve got a plan to stop the summer slide and keep those brains sharp! 🤣

The WCLS Summer Reading Program 2026 is here to save the day—and the brains! Join us in June and July for a fun-filled adventure where this year’s theme is “Unearth a Story!” Every Thursday, we’ll have activities so exciting, your kids won’t even notice they’re learning. Live animals, magic shows, music, games, crafts, and of course, reading!

Plus, free books and prizes? Yes, please! So, let’s keep those minds from going on vacation. Register your little bookworms starting May 26th. Because let’s be real, no one wants their kid to come back to school less proficient.

A Greenville native is selected for the Mississippi Center for the Book children's publication for "Great Reads from Great Places"
Mississippi Library Commission

We’re proud to announce our 2026 Children’s Book selection for Great Reads from Great Places from the Mississippi Center for the Book.

One Mississippi by Steve Azar, illustrated by Sarah Frances Hardy, is a vibrant children’s book inspired by Mississippi’s people, places, and culture—and the official state song.

This selection celebrates storytelling, music, and the spirit of Mississippi, and we’re proud to share it with young readers, families, and libraries across the state.

Learn more and connect with your local library to explore this title.
