Happy National Good Neighbor Day, Green Bay! 💙

Today (Sept 28) is National Good Neighbor Day — a fitting note to end on, because we just wrapped our 7th annual Good Neighbor Week! Over the past weeks, volunteers and sponsors came together across Allouez, Green Bay, and De Pere to help neighbors with the projects that had gotten hard to keep up with — paint, yards, gutters, repairs, and a whole lot of heart. Being a good neighbor doesn't take a special skill — just showing up. A few ways to celebrate today:
🏡 Introduce yourself to someone on your block
🤝 Lend a hand to a neighbor who could use one
🍽️ Share a meal, a wave, or a few minutes on the porch

🏡💚 Good Neighbor Week — Day 5, and we’re rounding out the week!

Our final project brought together a homeowner, Meijer volunteers, and one more reminder of what being a good neighbor is all about.

Our homeowner couldn’t afford to have her older garage torn down and replaced, so she made a compromise. Instead, we gave it a fresh coat of paint. It didn’t solve everything, but it made a difference—and helped bring back some pride in the place she calls home. ✨

Sometimes being a good neighbor isn’t about fixing everything. It’s about helping make what someone has a little better.

Meijer didn’t just help fund Good Neighbor Week—they sent a team to serve right alongside their neighbors. As they shared:

“Good Neighbor Week gives us time to slow down and recognize the people in the community and make it feel like home. To us, being a good neighbor means volunteering our time and continuing to build strong connections within the community.”

That’s the whole idea. ❤️

And while this week is wrapping up, Good Neighbor Week isn’t quite finished! We still have a project in De Pere on October 6 where we’re looking for volunteers, plus one more project coming later in October.

🏡💚 Good Neighbor Week — Day 4, and we’re rounding the corner!
Two more successful projects are in the books—and both are reminders that Good Neighbor Week is about more than getting work done. It’s about connection, shared skills, and helping one another.

At one home, volunteers power-washed and stained the deck and made a simple adjustment to redirect water away from the back door. What had been causing water to pool and contributing to a rotting door became a safer, more welcoming space.

The homeowner summed it up perfectly: “The deck looks wonderful and makes my yard look 10% nicer.” 😊

One volunteer shared what made the experience meaningful: “Taking pride in one's house keeps our Green Bay communities looking beautiful. I enjoyed working with 2 other dedicated volunteers. Happy to do the good work!” 💚

At our other project, two homeowners with physical limitations needed a hand caring for homes they take great pride in. Volunteers helped maintain the property, leveled the porch and gate to make them safer and easier to manage, and shared their skills with others who wanted to learn. 🛠️🤝

That’s the connection at the heart of Good Neighbor Week: people working alongside one another, learning from each other, sharing what they can, and building relationships along the way. When skills are shared and neighbors come together, everyone wins.

🏡💚 Good Neighbor Week — Day 4: A little help can bring pride home.

Today we slowed the pace a bit with two projects, welcoming new friends from CoVantage Credit Union and First LLC, along with some returning volunteers.

At one home, volunteers stained a deck and porch railing and spruced up the trees. The homeowner shared that they aren’t able to do things around the home like they used to. He said:

“They make a difference by bringing people together and helping our neighborhood be a better place. Their support gives me a great sense of community and reminds me that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.”

At another home, volunteers came to paint the porch—but with extra hands, they were able to tackle the back deck and front fence too, bringing the curb appeal back! ✨ The homeowner, a past NeighborWorks Green Bay client, shared how that support has helped make homeownership possible and allowed her to maintain and improve her home.

Our volunteers said seeing the finished projects and knowing they helped a neighbor was heartwarming. One reflection especially stuck with us: sometimes a home needs a little help not because someone doesn’t care, but because they simply need a hand.

And when an earlier project needed more help to finish, our volunteers were happy to go back. 🤝

Showing up. Pitching in. Helping where you’re needed. That’s being a good neighbor. 💚
