What if every veterinary practice added just five more spay/neuter surgeries a week?

On this episode of The United Spay Alliance Podcast, Dr. Becky Morrow of Frankie’s Friends Humane joins host Brianna Lovell Myers to talk high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter, training veterinary teams, and why making an impact doesn’t have to mean completely changing the way you practice.

Tune in to hear why sometimes, the answer is simple: Just Add Five.

Thank you to Dr Kyle from Lakeside Animal Hospital in Oshkosh and Dr Jenna from 4 Legged Friends Veterinary Clinic for taking the afternoon shifts. We would not be able to do these spay days without our awesome volunteers- from veterinarians to trap cleaners and everyone in between 👏👏👏👏

We love a BOGO! 😂 This boy-girl pair will be back in the barn tomorrow acting like nothing happened.

Good news and bad news - which do you pick first?

Okay good news ... half time stats are in:
1,037 cats through our program so far this year! BRAVO! Thank you everyone ... that used to be our full-year goal!

Some half-and-half news:
181 new colonies registered with us, estimating 1,236 cats in sum. That's good news as the benefits of TNVR and willingness to participate spreads! But read on ...

The bad news:
The veterinary shortage is still a very real challenge. As you can see from the numbers above, the demand continues to exceed our capacity. It's not just us and our little program in NE Wisconsin. Some sources estimate that the profession is 25% short of the veterinarians needed, and the gap widens every year. Many of the veterinary professionals who volunteer with us and participate in our voucher program are already under a lot of pressure at their paid jobs ... but they still give up a Saturday to volunteer with us because they know spay/neuter is the key to solving overpopulation.

Please be kind, please be patient. We have no magic wands. We have only 5 very part-time staff and a lot of volunteers giving all they can.

If you are also passionate about TNVR, and especially if traveling from the outer reaches of our service area, please consider organizing a program in your community. We're always willing to share advice, provide some hands-on experience, share lessons learned, etc. We've watched a number of other TNVR programs come together and sadly, ultimately fold. But at one time, we were just a handful of people who knew little to nothing about running a nonprofit, but were willing to figure it out.
