What an incredible week at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in our nation’s capital! Connor and I joined more than 10,000 FCCLA members, advisers, and community partners from across the country for a week of leadership, service, advocacy, and unforgettable experiences.
Connor had the honor and responsibility of serving as a voting delegate, helping elect the next National Executive Council and voting on proposed organizational amendment changes that will help shape the future of FCCLA.
While in Washington, D.C., we also had the opportunity to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary and experience our nation’s history firsthand. From standing before the Lincoln Memorial and touring the Capitol Building to visiting the National Archives and seeing the founding documents of our country, each stop was a powerful reminder of the freedoms and opportunities we enjoy as Americans.
We toured the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian museums, and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. One of the highlights of the week was attending the spectacular projection mapping light show at the Washington Monument, which beautifully told the story of our nation’s birth and the people who helped shape it.
We also joined FCCLA members from across the country on Capitol Hill to advocate for continued support of Family and Consumer Sciences education in our states and communities. Watching thousands of students raise their voices for an organization and career field they love was incredibly inspiring.
Leadership isn’t just learned in a classroom, it’s experienced through service, advocacy, and stepping outside your comfort zone. This trip was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we am so proud of Connor for the leader he is becoming and the way he represented Texas FCCLA and our community.
Washington, D.C. reminded us that the future of our country is sitting in classrooms and leadership conferences today, and FCCLA is helping prepare those students to lead tomorrow.
