The Western Slope Center for Children (aka "Center for Children") provides collaborative services to child abuse victims and their families. Each year, the Center for Children serves 300+ children in cases involving child abuse allegations, ranging from sexual abuse to physical abuse & neglect, drug endangerment, witness to domestic violence & homicide, and much more. The Center for Children has a

team of professionals across five core areas of service dedicated to providing child victims and their families help, hope, and healing. Working alongside strong community partnerships, the Center for Children seeks to ensure that children whose voices are silenced by their abuser will once again have them restored.

Today, the Center for Children says “see you later” to a deeply valued investigator, partner, and friend. 💙

For many years, Investigator Norcross dedicated her life to investigating crimes against children—walking alongside some of the most vulnerable members of our community during their darkest moments. Through her professionalism, determination, and heart, she helped countless children find safety, justice, and hope.

This work is not easy. It requires strength to hear difficult stories, resilience to pursue the truth, and compassion to support children and families through unimaginable circumstances. Investigator Norcross has exemplified all of these qualities throughout her career, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of those she served and the professionals fortunate enough to work alongside her.

While her retirement marks the end of an incredible chapter, her legacy will continue through the children she helped protect, the cases she helped solve, and the many lives she touched along the way.

Thank you, Lissah, for your years of dedicated service, your advocacy for children, and your commitment to making our community a safer place. We wish you a retirement filled with joy, peace, adventure, and all the happiness you have so richly earned.

On this Feature Friday, we recognize Brittany Petersen!

Brittany is with Assessment SCW llll and has worked with the department for almost 7 years.

Her favorite part of the job is working with community partners to ensure safety for the children and families.

She enjoys the ocean, horseback riding, and anything to do with animals. She is currently looking to get scuba certified.

Her favorite part about working with the MDT is learning different perspectives and how they can work together as a team to ensure the safety of the children and families in our community!

Congrats to all of the Colorado Mesa University students who graduated this weekend! We would like to recognize all of the dedication, perseverance, and hard work of this year’s graduates. 🎓

The Center would especially like to congratulate Abigail Portice. Abigail has interned at the Center over the past year. In that time, she has gained lots of skills as well as valuable experiences. Abigail also helped to share new ideas and innovations in her time as an intern. Abigail has graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. We cannot wait to see all of the amazing things ahead of her as she embarks on her next chapter.

This week we’d like to recognize our therapist for all the hard work they do! Today we share the reason why they do all the amazing work. We couldn’t do it without them!

My name is Diana, and I have been in the therapy field for two years now! I started my journey off as a nanny and have always loved working with children one on one! Becoming a children’s therapist was an easy and natural choice! Creating a safe space in which children feel safe enough to express themselves freely is a privilege and an honor. I look forward to continuing to expand my skill set and learning everyday from the children I serve!

Hello, I am Christal every day I work as therapist I am reminded of my reason why; seeing the shift with the kids. Its the small shifts, that I hear the kids report or their parents. In honor or police week, the Center would like to extend a huge thank you to all of the incredible men and women who continually put their lives on the line to protect and serve the community, investigate crimes, and stand up for victims.

We are grateful once again to have had the honor of hosting a delicious breakfast for all of our amazing law enforcement partners- a small show of gratitude for all of the tremendous work that they do. 🚔💙

Today, the Center participates in denim day.

Denim Day: What You Wear Is Never an Invitation.

On Denim Day, we stand in solidarity with survivors of sexual violence and challenge the harmful myths that continue to surround it.

Denim Day began after a court ruling suggested that a victim’s tight jeans implied consent. In response, people around the world wore denim to protest victim-blaming and send a clear message: Clothing is never consent.

Today is all about standing with victims of sexual violence, and standing against victim blaming. 👖💙

It’s the last week of April, and that means this week is the last week of child abuse prevention month. We are so grateful to all of those who have decided to for kids.

This week, some members of our District Attorney’s office have gone blue! Hear below why Melinda Shishim, chief deputy DA, as well as senior trial deputies Juliann Lawrence and Robert Zentner have decided to .
