We love you coach!!!!
This week… Coach of the week was nominated by the head coach of 8U. Rachel Simpson
1) What made you want to coach with Stratford Football, and what do you enjoy most about being part of the Knights family?
being a mom of children in the program, I came to appreciate that Stratford is about so much more than winning games. The program is focused on teaching the game, developing well-rounded players, and preparing them for the next level—values that I strongly believe in, especially for kids at this age. Of course, we all want to win, but the true measure of success is the growth, development, and experiences we provide these young athletes along the way. I also love the Knights family and the sense of community within the program. There is an incredible level of support among everyone—coaches, parents, and team moms—regardless of the age group or team they are a part of. Everyone is willing to step up, lend a hand, and support one another. That sense of unity and family is what makes the Knights program so special to me
2) What is one thing you hope your players learn from you this season that goes beyond football?
I hope the players see me as someone who is willing to step outside the norm and challenge traditional expectations by being a female coach in a traditionally male-dominated sport. More importantly, I hope my example inspires them to understand that they, too, can step outside the box, embrace challenges, and pursue opportunities that may take them beyond their comfort zones—whether that is on the football field or in life. Ultimately, we are not only teaching them the game of football. We are helping shape the character, confidence, and values they will carry with them beyond the field. My goal is to help guide these boys as they grow into respectful, confident, hardworking young men who understand the importance of perseverance, accountability, and having the courage to be different.
🔥 Bonus question:
If you could describe your coaching style in three words, what would they be—and why?
One of the greatest compliments I have received came from the mother of one of my players, who described me as “the best of both worlds—firm and fun.” She appreciated my ability to build genuine connections with the players, laugh with them, and enjoy the experience alongside them, while also knowing when it was time to shift gears and get to work. When it came time to focus, I held them accountable, set high expectations, and wasn’t afraid to be tough when necessary. I believe that balance is an important part of effective coaching—creating an environment where players feel comfortable being themselves while also understanding that hard work, discipline, and accountability are non-negotiable.
