We had an outstanding Twilight Walking Tour of Glasgow's historic West Washington Street this evening for nearly 120 attendees! It was a perfect autumn evening for an educational and entertaining stroll down one of Glasgow's first streets and which was named in honor of George Washington in the very year he died (1799). Did you know that the famed gunsmith Felix Settle once lived in a home just off the Glasgow square? Or that West Washington Street was the home of bank presidents, newspaper editors, photographers (3 in the 19th century!), well-known piano instructors, the mayor of Glasgow, the owner of Glasgow's largest dry goods business, the uncle of a presidential candidate, one of Glasgow's most successful businessmen, and the site of the office and clinic of the man named "Person of the Century?" All in a two-block section of a Glasgow street!

Special thanks to Josh and Terryn Francis, Dewayne Moseley, David Ridings, Sam Terry, Leigh - Barret - and Robert Howard Lessenberry for their unique roles in making the tour meaningful and informative.

Tonight was the first of what the Society hopes to be an on-going series of tours in Glasgow's National Register Historic Districts. Watch for more tours in the spring of 2027!
