In Strawtown Studio's ‘Spring Earth Art’ After School program in Nyack, students aren't just making art, they're discovering the world around them through it. This spring, our young learners are exploring the four elements: earth, water, fire, and air.

This handcrafted paper bird is more than a beautiful object. It's a child's encounter with air itself 🌬️ - how wind moves, how wings work, how living things navigate the invisible forces all around us. When kids make something that flies, they start to feel those forces rather than just read about them.

That's what makes Strawtown different. We don't separate art from nature, or creativity from curiosity. We bring them together and watch something take flight.

☀️Only a handful of spots remain for Strawtown’s Summer Discovery Days in sessions 1 & 2! If your child (ages 7–12) is ready for a summer of stream-exploring, berry-picking, art-making, and making new friends in nature, now is the time to register.

Two-week sessions run Monday – Thursday, 9:30am–4:00pm at the beautiful Marydell Faith & Life Center at the base of Hook Mountain on the Hudson River.

Did you know trees talk to each other?

Beneath the forest floor, trees are connected by a vast web of fungi - a living network that carries water, nutrients, and even warning signals from tree to tree. Scientists call it the mycorrhizal network.

We like to think of it as the forest's own quiet language.

It's a reminder that nothing in nature lives alone. Trees communicate with trees. Bees carry life from flower to flower. Birds forage across hillsides. And children, when they slow down, step outside, and softly touch the bark of a tree, become part of that conversation too.

At Strawtown Studio, we believe one of the most powerful things we can give a child is the felt sense that they belong to something larger than themselves. Not just their family, their classroom, or their town, but the whole living, breathing, interconnected world.

That's not something you can learn from a worksheet. It's something you have to touch. 🌳

This Memorial Day, as we remember all those who have come before us and have given their lives to protect the land and people they loved and cherished, we are also thinking about the Hudson Valley - its mountains, forests and rivers, the land that so many have called home across generations.

Today we see these heroes in our land and express our gratitude for their sacrifices.

We believe that knowing a place deeply is formative and essential for our youth, and brings history to life.
