Hi Everyone,

Our Fire Department needs us tonight.

The Gardiner Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) is meeting at 7 PM at Town Hall. This meeting matters for the Fire Department, and a strong turnout from residents can make a real difference.

Why this matters:
Our firefighters and first responders protect our homes, families, and community every day. Tonight, they need us to return the favor. Showing up and speaking up sends a clear message to the Board that our community stands behind them and supports our new sign.

What to do:
- Come to Town Hall by 7 PM
- Bring a neighbor, friend, or family member
- If you're comfortable, share why the Fire Department matters to you

Even if you don't speak, just being there counts. A full room shows the Board that people care.

Thank you for stepping up for the people who step up for us.

Twenty-five years ago this morning, 2,753 people were killed at the World Trade Center. Among them were 343 FDNY firefighters, 37 Port Authority police officers, 23 NYPD officers, and eight EMTs and paramedics. Over four hundred people who died going up the stairs while everyone else was coming down.

Richard Pearlman was eighteen. He joined the Forest Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps at fourteen, worked his way up to dispatcher, and was still training for his EMT card. That morning he was delivering papers to 1 Police Plaza for the law firm where he clerked. He heard the call, and instead of going back to work he walked toward the towers. He never got his certification. At 18, he became the youngest first responder to die on September 11.

The losses didn't end that day. Thousands spent the next ten months on the pile, and more than 600 FDNY members have since died of what they breathed there. Thirty-six more names were added to the memorial wall two weeks ago. The list is still growing.

The Gardiner Fire Department is a small volunteer department a hundred miles north of Lower Manhattan. But it's the same job and the same choice, and our members make it every time the tones drop.

No day shall erase you from the memory of time.

🔥 **Weekly Training Update** 🚒🚑

Last night, members of the Gardiner Fire Department participated in our weekly training on both the Fire and EMS sides.

đźš’ Fire: Our firefighters participated in a tanker shuttle drill hosted by the Orange Lake Fire District. In rural areas without fire hydrants, tanker shuttles are critical for maintaining an adequate water supply during fire suppression operations. These incidents often require multiple departments to work together to continuously transport and deliver water to the fire scene. Training together helps ensure these operations run safely and efficiently when it matters most.

đźš‘ EMS: Our EMS members reviewed new protocols related to medication administration and discussed the assessment and treatment of toxicology patients and behavioral emergencies.

Regular training keeps our members prepared for the wide variety of emergencies we may face. Thank you to the Orange Lake Fire District for hosting and to everyone who participated!

Monday Night Drill brought members together for another evening of training and skill development.

As part of our monthly focus on forestry and wildland firefighting, members spent the evening honing their chainsaw operations skills under the instruction of 1st Assistant Chief Brian Stiscia and 2nd Assistant Chief Matt Aube.

Firefighters practiced the proper and safe operation of chainsaws while cutting trees of various sizes and in different positions. Training focused on selecting the appropriate saw for the job, safe cutting techniques, and building the skills needed for storm response, wildland incidents, and other emergencies involving downed trees.

Inside the station, our EMS crew went back to basics, reinforcing the foundational skills that every provider relies on. Members reviewed and practiced vital patient assessment techniques including blood pressure measurement, pulse assessment, blood glucose testing, and other core EMS skills that serve as the foundation for quality patient care.

No matter the discipline, continuous training ensures our members remain prepared to safely and effectively serve the residents of Gardiner whenever the call comes in.
