Hey friends! Did you know…

According to statistics (provided by ministries like DOOR International and GACX), there are around 7 million d/Deaf people in the world. Of that 7 million, approximately only 2% of them are professing Christians!

On the island of Jamaica there are approx. 7,000 Deaf people!

Deaf people experience communication barriers every day. Only around 10% of parents with a d/Deaf child will learn sign language. This naturally causes many d/Deaf children (and adults) to go without vital information, which includes the Gospel. Everyone needs to be shown the love and told of the salvation Jesus Christ provides.

We need to be the hands and feet of Jesus (emphasis on the hands part around here)!

When people find out, that this is my (Monica’s) first trip to Jamaica, they find it hard to believe. The next question is, ‘How long has Brian been going?’

This is how long.

I have been sending my husband to CCCD, to serve the Deaf people of Jamaica, for this amount of time.

Then the confusion on their faces. Anytime I bring up my love for the people of Jamaica, my love for the Deaf there, people always assume I have been there. Because of the love in my voice. My drive to get them a new water system. The constant need to talk about the ministry.

I love the Deaf people in Jamaica. I have a burden for them. So much so, that I have ‘lent’ my husband, when we had babies at home.

I love the Deaf people so much, that I knew they needed him, so we did without him for short periods over the years.

So. Just because this is my first time going, doesn’t mean I don’t love these people already. That I don’t know them. That they are not constantly on my heart. I have been sending my heart to them, over the years. So they already know me too.

The Lord has such a sense of humor. Monica, in the middle of the night ‘I wonder if we have enough luggage for us all to go to Jamaica.’

We are a month away from leaving for Jamaica! A few things we are doing to prep:

We were just alerted a few days ago that the maintenance guy, Richard (in the white) is asking Brian to bring some tools. We thought it would be nice if we could buy them on the island and leave them there for Richard. If you would like to donate to the tool fund, please message me. This is a VERY practical thing and is so needed.

We are limited in what we can bring, but, if you have any gently used shirts or skirts, things that are light material that would not weigh too much, we are putting together some clothing pieces to donate to staff at the school.

We are currently trying to figure out how we are getting to Cincinnati Airport. We would have to leave at 3am. We need a large vehicle, we will have 7 people and some luggage. If you are willing, please message me.

Meet the 2026 Jamaica Team!!

We have known Cody for quite some time. He went to Dayton Christian with the girls! He always wanted to take the trip with Dayton Christian but it never worked out. Now he gets his chance!!

Hi, my name is Cody Clements. I am a music composition student at Cedarville university who has a passion for creativity and the arts. I have wanted to go on the Jamaica trip these past several years but never really had the opportunity to do so, but I am excited to finally get the chance to visit the deaf community there and be able to show them the love of Christ. I have a passion for the deaf community because of the members of my Church who are deaf and getting the opportunity to talk with them, as well as taking Sign Language in High School, where my Pastor was my teacher.

Meet the 2026 Jamaica Team!
This is Amelia (Mia) Hartz, Brian and Monica’s youngest daughter!
Mia is currently studying Social Work and works at a nonprofit horse farm in Springboro, Ohio, where she is a lesson instructor. She has a huge passion for working with kids and especially loves teaching them to ride and helping them grow in confidence through their time with horses.
Mia’s dad, Brian, is Deaf, so she has known ASL since birth and grew up surrounded by Deaf culture. She has also received a certificate in Deaf Studies, which has given her an even deeper love and appreciation for the Deaf community.
This will be Mia’s fourth trip to the CCCD in Jamaica! She has made many special friendships during her previous trips and is so excited to return to see old friends, make new ones, and continue serving a school and community that means so much to her. She loves the mission of the CCCD to help make Jesus known throughout the community and is excited to be a part of that work again.
Since her last trip to Jamaica, Mia has grown tremendously in her relationship with the Lord, and she is especially excited to see how He will use her presence, gifts, and experiences on this trip. She can’t wait to see what the Lord has planned and to serve the CCCD community once again!

This is Brian and Monica’s daughter and son in law. It really was a ‘God Thing’ that we were all able to make this trip work!!!

This is Merrick and Emma May!

Merrick is an Aircraft Mechanic based out of Greene County Airport. His first exposure to Deaf culture was with Brian at Dayton Christian School and with Emma when they started dating in High School. He took several years of ASL classes and has gone to many Deaf events with his wife Emma. He is excited to go on his first missions trip to Jamaica to help those in need and to spread the love of Christ.

Emma is a customer service representative at American leak detection. She is a coda, a child of a deaf adult. She grew up knowing sign and it was her first language. She has always had a heart for the deaf. This will be her fourth time going to the CCCD. And she is very excited to serve the Lord there and show the love of Christ.

Meet the 2026 Jamaica Team!

When Kelvin first came to me, asking about the CCCD Deaf School, I saw in both him and Gayle a passion to make a difference. They weren’t sure originally, if they were going to come but, God made a way! We have loved getting to know them better and are excited to take this trip with them!

Kelvin and Gayle are excited to be going to Jamaica to serve at the Caribbean Christian Center for the Deaf. Kelvin is a recently retired pastor. His favorite part of being a pastor is making God‘s Word practical for our daily challenges. Gayle has a family owned business that serves individuals with developmental disabilities. Kelvin and Gayle have five married children and 16 grandchildren, who are all 10 years and younger. Their favorite “hobby” is spending time with their grandkids and family.

Meet the 2026 Jamaica Team!

We are Brian and Monica Hartz. We kind of feel stupid introducing ourselves since most people know us! But, in the event, we are going for it!

Brian and I are excited to go to Jamaica in November. It will be my very first time. Honestly, Brian has gone so much we have lost count. I believe this will be his 8th or 9th time going.

We are excited to get some serious work done. Brian on the physical hard labor side, speaking with their engineer, whom he always misses when he is there in January! And myself, the administration side. We are really going to work hard to tie up the loose ends that need to be secured to return in 2 years to get this water system installed.

Our heart for the Deaf people in Jamaica, can’t really be explained. The poverty, is hard on the people and being Deaf and isolated compounds it all. We are grateful that there is a school, that sets up these people for success. We are looking forward to experiencing this trip as a couple for the very first time!
