Foster City AYSO

Foster City AYSO Our Vision: Provide world class youth soccer programs that enrich children’s lives. Interest and enthusiasm are the only criteria for playing.

Our Mission: To develop and deliver quality youth soccer programs which promote a fun, family environment based on our Six Philosophies. AYSO’s Six Philosophies
These are living tenets that separate AYSO from other sports organizations:

Everyone Plays®
Every player on every team must play at least 50 percent of every game. It's no fun to spend the game on the bench and that's no way to learn socc

er! Balanced Teams
Teams are balanced to make playing soccer about the experience, not wins or losses. This way, we teach children about good sportsmanship and learning to be the best possible teammate and opponent. By focusing on player development over winning, AYSO is truly child-first and child-focused. Open Registration
Our program is open to all children who want to register and play soccer. There are no eliminations or try-outs, nobody gets cut. Positive Coaching
Encouragement of player effort provides for greater enjoyment for the players and leads to better-skilled and better-motivated players. AYSO requires coaches to create a positive experience for every child. Good Sportsmanship
We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude, and our program is designed to instill good sportsmanship in every facet of AYSO. Player Development
All players should be able to develop their soccer skills and knowledge to the best of their abilities, both individually and as members of a team, in order to maximize their enjoyment of the game.

We hope everyone had an amazing Spring Season!

This season was a little extra special as we celebrated in true World Cup fashion with tournaments for our older age groups and plenty of fun memories along the way.

We were also excited to surprise our players with Panini Sticker Books from , along with certificates and goodies from , including stickers, pens, pins, and trading cards!

Most importantly, thank you to all of our players, coaches, referees, volunteers, and families who made this season such a success. Your energy, sportsmanship, and support are what make our soccer community so special.

We hope you enjoyed the season as much as we did, and we can’t wait to see everyone back on the field this fall!

A huge THANK YOU to Coach Blair for all of your hard work, dedication, and positive impact this season!

The kids absolutely loved having you as their coach, and your encouragement, leadership, and enthusiasm made every practice and game a better experience for everyone involved.

Behind the scenes, you stepped into some very big shoes and did an incredible job. Your willingness to help, support the program, and give so much of your time did not go unnoticed.

As you head back home, we wish you safe travels and continued success in all that you do. We hope you continue to thrive and make the same positive difference wherever your journey takes you.

Thank you for everything, Coach Blair—you’ll always be part of our soccer family!

Shoutout to our Foster City AYSO Youth Referee Ambassadors!

Recently, our Youth Ref Ambassadors had the opportunity to be interviewed by San Mateo AYSO to share how Foster City AYSO supports and develops youth referees. They spoke about their experiences on the field, the leadership skills they’ve gained, and the positive impact youth refereeing has had on their confidence and growth.

We’re proud that they could represent Foster City AYSO while helping promote youth refereeing across our neighboring regions. Their stories are helping inspire the next generation of referees and supporting San Mateo AYSO’s efforts to recruit more youth refs.

Youth referees are an essential part of the game—they build leadership, communication, decision-making, and teamwork skills while giving back to the soccer community.

Interested in becoming a youth referee? We’d love to have you join us!

Thank you to our ambassadors for being outstanding representatives of Foster City AYSO and helping grow the referee program throughout our AYSO community.

As you register, we want to give you a heads-up about an important change coming to player age group placement. Starting this Fall, US Soccer is moving all youth organizations—including AYSO and club soccer at all levels—from a calendar-year cutoff (Jan–Dec) to a school-year-based cutoff (Aug 1–July 31).

Why the change? While any shift involves a bit of “turbulence” in the short term, this is a move we fully support. Having been involved with the league for many years, I recall when the cutoff was moved away from the school year nearly a decade ago, and many of us felt it was a mistake then.

Returning to a school-year model better aligns our divisions with grade levels. This means:

Play with Classmates: Kids are more likely to be grouped with their friends from school.

Consistency: It reduces “split teams” where kids are separated from peers due to a birth month.

Alignment: Our league will now be consistent with other youth sports organizations nationwide.

What this means for your child: Our registration software will automatically place your child in the correct division, but here is a quick guide so you know what to expect:

Birthdays between Jan 1st – July 31st: This change does not impact your child’s progression; they will move up to the next division as expected.

Birthdays between Aug 1st – Dec 31st: Your child will remain in the same division they played in during the Fall 2025 season.

We want to emphasize that your player is not being moved backward. They are simply being placed in their correct school-year cohort. Under this new system, many fall-birthday players will spend an additional year in a division to ensure they stay with their classmates for the duration of their playing years.
