Fort Belvoir Professional Fire Fighters IAFF F-273 Disclaimer: This forum is not associated with Fort Belvoir Garrison or the Department of Defense

The Fort Belvoir Professional Firefighters Local F273 was established by the International Association of Firefighters on October 18th, 1992 with 24 founding members. The Local has expanded and grown since the early days as the Department has grown. Today we represent firefighters, Firefighter/Medics and Fore Marshals of the Fort Belvoir Fire and Emergency Services. Since the beginning Local F273

has worked tirelessly to better the health, welfare and safety of its members as well as increase the fire protection of the garrison. Local F273 was instrumental in securing funds from Congress during the 2009 Base Realignment and Closure for two fire stations and the staffing needed to man those stations. One of those stations represented an increase of the fire protection by adding an additional Engine and Truck company to the Garrison. The Officers of F273 strive to work along side Fort Belvoir Fire and Emergency Services leadership to meet the Department's values and mission statement.

April 28th is International Workers Memorial Day. This is a day set aside to remember all those who died at work, or because of work. The date was chosen by the AFL-CIO because April 28 is the anniversary of the date the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 went into effect, and when the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was formed on April 28, 1971. The motto became “Remember the dead, fight for the living”

You work this job long enough you know someone who died because of the job in some form or another. And while the IAFF does a good job of remembering our line of duty deaths, not everyone is IAFF, or not every death is classified legally as a line of duty death. So today take a moment and remember our fallen.

In many federal workplaces, quiet quitting is still treated as an employee attitude problem. The assumption is simple: people no longer want to go above
