Cheshire Home residents are officially back on the diamond for a second year playing in the adaptive softball league organized by DAWN Center for Independent Living, and if last week’s game was any indication, this season is going to be fun! 💙

From rolling up to the plate and making big plays to cheering teammates on from the sidelines, the field was full of laughter, teamwork, and those moments that remind us that sports are about so much more than the score.

What makes this league so special is that it is all about inclusion, community, confidence-building and friendship. Everyone gets the chance to be part of the action and our residents showed up, ready to play.

Huge shoutout to the players, staff, volunteers, and supporters who make these nights possible. We’re excited for another summer filled with softball, smiles, and unforgettable memories. Let the season begin! 🌟

Wound Care and Pain Management Essentials for SCI Residents

Effective wound care and pain management are vital for individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI). Preventive strategies like regular skin checks, pressure relief, proper hygiene, and supportive equipment help reduce the risk of pressure ulcers and skin complications.

Pain management may include medications, physical therapy, and complementary treatments to improve comfort and mobility. Proper nutrition and a comfortable, accessible environment also support healing and overall well-being.

We are reaching out on behalf of our residents with physical disabilities with an important request. Cheshire Home is the only facility in the tri-state region that has the Rise&Walk®, a harness-based device designed specifically for people who cannot walk on their own. For our residents, who are newly paraplegic or quadriplegic, this rehabilitation equipment helps them stand and take steps, often for the first time since their injury.

🏆 At Field Day at Cheshire Home, our residents brought the energy, teamwork, and competitive spirit as they battled it out in three teams through an afternoon of adapted games and challenges! From trivia and scavenger hunts to homerun derby, bowling, races, obstacle courses, and even shot put, everyone gave it their all and had an amazing time. 💪

And the competition is still on…Right now, Team 1 and Team 3 are tied for first place! We will be holding an epic tiebreaker to determine the champions.

What’s at stake? A well-earned pizza party for the winning team! 🍕🏅Stay tuned to see who takes home the Field Day crown!

A winning night for Cheshire Home!
Our residents and staff had an incredible time at the Somerset Patriots game, and to make the night even better — the Patriots brought home the WIN! ⚾

From cheering in the stands and enjoying ballpark favorites to sharing laughs and making memories together, it was a night full of excitement, community, and fun. Experiences like these mean so much to our residents and remind us how important connection and inclusion truly are. ❤️

Cheshire Home received the tickets through the generosity of the Somerset Patriots Corporate Care Program. Cheshire Home had an amazing day at the Abilities Expo in NYC! 🗽♿

Residents had the opportunity to explore the latest adaptive sports, innovative tools and technology, accessibility resources, and hands-on activities designed to empower individuals with disabilities. They tried adaptive sports equipment and discovered new products that support independence, and mobility.

The day was filled with inspiration, and plenty of fun. Most importantly, it was a chance to connect with a community that celebrates ability, inclusion, and possibility.
