A New Chapter for Your Fate Firefighters

We are excited to share an important milestone with the community we serve. The Fate Firefighters Association has officially been presented with our IAFF Local 5613 charter.

The International Association of Fire Fighters⁠ has represented professional firefighters since 1918. Throughout its history, IAFF charters have marked the beginning of new Locals and generations of firefighters working together to strengthen their departments, protect their members, and better serve their communities.

Now, Fate Firefighters Local 5613 gets to add its own chapter to that history.

Fate has changed tremendously over the years, and so has its fire department. As our community continues to grow, we believe it is important that the firefighters serving it have a unified voice advocating for strong staffing, proper resources, firefighter safety, and the continued improvement of the emergency services our citizens depend on.

This charter represents another step in that journey.

We are grateful for the firefighters who helped build this department before us, proud of those serving Fate today, and excited about what this department can become in the years ahead.

Most importantly, thank you to the citizens of Fate who continue to support your firefighters. We don’t take that support—or the responsibility of serving you—for granted.

We look forward to seeing IAFF Local 5613 become part of the history and future of the Fate Fire Department for generations to come.

Here are last month’s call statistics, and unfortunately, this is becoming our monthly average.

According to our reporting, since January 1, your Fate firefighters have been unavailable to respond to at least 42 of 1,620 calls for service at the time of this posting. That means there were 42 emergencies where our crews were already committed to another call or otherwise unavailable when another request for service came in.

As the City continues through the budget process, we encourage our citizens to stay informed, stay involved, and make your voices heard.

This is your community, your public safety, and your tax dollars. Let City leadership know how YOU want your Fire Department funded and staffed to respond when you or your family need us most.

We keeping one of our citizens, a valued partner with Rockwall County EMS, and his entire family in our thoughts and prayers following a tragic accident yesterday involving their youngest daughter.

Their sweet little girl is currently in the ICU fighting for her life. During this incredibly difficult time, we ask our community to join us in praying for peace, comfort, strength, and healing for her and her family.

The Fate Firefighters Association is disappointed that the scheduled City Council meeting regarding the upcoming city budget was unable to move forward due to a lack of attendance by the Council.

For your firefighters, the city budget is much more than numbers on a spreadsheet. It directly impacts staffing, equipment, training, and the resources available when you call 911.

As Fate continues to grow, the demands placed on your fire department continue to grow with it. Our department has identified and presented staffing needs as part of this year’s budget process. We are not asking for everything overnight. We are asking the City to continue making responsible progress toward providing the staffing and resources necessary to safely and effectively serve our growing community.

With important budget deadlines approaching, time matters. Every missed opportunity to discuss these needs means less time to evaluate requests, consider funding options, hear from the public, and make informed decisions before the budget is finalized.

We understand that circumstances can arise. However, when a scheduled meeting involving decisions this important cannot take place because the Council is not present, we believe the citizens and employees of Fate deserve transparency about what happened and what comes next.

This is also where we need YOU.

If public safety matters to you, now is the time to get involved. Attend the upcoming City Council meetings. Watch the budget discussions. Ask questions. Contact your elected representatives. And most importantly, come make your voice heard.

These decisions will affect the staffing and resources available to your firefighters, police officers, and other city employees for the next budget year. The people making those decisions need to hear directly from the citizens they represent.

You don’t have to be an expert on the city budget to participate. You don’t have to understand every line item. If you believe that public safety should keep pace with the growth of our community, you can simply show up and say so.

Fate is growing. The needs of our community are growing with it. Your voice can help make sure public safety isn’t left behind.

Our firefighters will continue showing up for Fate every day. We’re asking our citizens to show up with us when these decisions are being made.
