Raritan Headwaters Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization protecting clean water for all.

Raritan Headwaters Association (RHA) is 501(c)(3) non profit environmental conservation organization located in the heart of the Raritan Basin. Our staff and volunteer base protect and advocate for clean water in the north and south branch region of the Raritan River. The 470-square-mile region provides drinking water to more than 1.5 million residents of 39 municipalities in Hunterdon, Morris, and Somerset Counties. The water we protect and improve moves out and beyond our watershed to thousands of additional residents in the state. RHA protects, preserves, and improves water quality and other natural resources through our highly regarded science, education, outreach and advocacy programs. The drainage basin of the entire Raritan River covers approximately 1,100 square miles, making it the largest river basin located entirely within the State of New Jersey. The South Branch of the Raritan River is 51 miles long from its source in Budd Lake to its confluence with the North Branch in Branchburg. The North Branch of the Raritan River originates as a spring-fed stream in Morris County and flows south for approximately 23 miles to its confluence with the South Branch. The Raritan River empties into Raritan Bay on the Atlantic Ocean.

Over the past few months, the Budd Lake community have shared paintings, photographs, poems, and stories about what the lake means to them. Now it's time to see them together. Join the Mount Olive Public Library and us for the opening of the Budd Lake Community Art Gallery on Tuesday, November 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Children's Department. The evening includes a short presentation on our Budd Lake project, light refreshments, and a Q&A. Everyone is welcome.

Lantern Walk is one of our most popular events of the year, and for good reason! Join us this Sunday, November 1st, to stroll through our fields and trails at sunset, with glowing lanterns lighting the way as we gather to mark the turn of the season.

Each ticket includes a lantern, apple c***r, donuts, and snacks. Testo Pizza truck will be on site! Costumes and magical accessories are welcome.

Darrell Jones, Superintendent of Natural Resources Management at the Morris County Park Commission, talks about our tree planting project at Herzog Brook in Far Hills. This Wednesday and Thursday, we are wrapping up the final planting at this location.

If you’ve been thinking about joining us for Lantern Walk on Sunday, November 1st, now is a good time to register and reserve your lantern!

Walk through fields and trails at sunset, with glowing lanterns as friends and neighbors gather to mark the turn of the season. Each ticket includes a lantern, face painting, a flower crown, apple c***r, and snacks. Testo Pizza will be on site, selling their freshly made wood-fired pizzas.

Our stewardship staff was joined by 30 amazing volunteers from the Royal Bank of Canada, including RHA Board member Shireen Fathi, for a stewardship day at our Helen Woodman Natural Area in Far Hills. Everyone pitched in to remove invasive plants along the North Branch, preparing the area for trees scheduled for planting along the river. We appreciate RBC's dedication and support of RHA!
